Nightwulf|work: hi all
junkrocker: hi, did anybody have any success in setting up dual screen on a radeon hd 2400 xt?
junkrocker: whatever i try, my second monitor stays blank, although i can see it as connected when running xrandr -q
libvde: junkrocker: please run X with -logverbose 7 and post your Xorg.0.log to the mailinglist
junkrocker: libvde: ok, will do so. Thanks a lot
ehaupt: I just compiled the git version and the card gets detected as "Chipset RV620 found" but w/o 3d -> "(II) RADEONHD(0): Unknown card detected: 0x95C5:0x1787:0x2252"
ehaupt: seems to me like there is just a pci id missing
ehaupt: http://critical.ch/people/radeonhd/Xorg.0.log <- if anyone's interested
ndim: ehaupt: That "unknown card" message is irrelevant for the 3D stuff.
ndim: ehaupt: And we only have 3D for R5xx anyway, not R6xx.
ehaupt: oh, okay that explains a lot
ndim: ehaupt: And besides, the kernel DRM for R5xx is buggy. It loves to hang my machine.
ndim: Fortunately, I can run radeonhd in 2D-only mode without loading the DRM stuff at all.
ehaupt: i am using it under freebsd
adamk: has never had a hang with the open source drivers for his x1300 or x1950.
adamk: Maybe I'm just lucky.
ehaupt: but that won't help if there's no support for the R6xx
ehaupt: thanks for the clarification ndim
ndim: ehaupt: If you are busy, check back for R6xx in october (or wait for the headlines on phoronix, slashdot, and wherever).
ehaupt: i will
MostAwesomeDude: has also not had any hangups with his X1600 or X1950
sytse: junkrocker: I assume you have two DDC-capable monitors connected? If not, you're bound to run into trouble
junkrocker: sytse: i have two identic monitors (Dell 1908FP)
junkrocker: however, i've posted the issue to the mailing list
mirak: hi
mirak: hola
mirak: bonjour
mirak: can radeonhd play videos smoother than fglrx 8.6 and 8.8 ?
mirak: I have the choice to go to windows or buy an nvidia card right now ...
MostAwesomeDude: mirak: Which card?
mirak: hd4850
MostAwesomeDude: Ah.
mirak: opengl output is to slow to play 1080p streams
mirak: with fgrlx
MostAwesomeDude: Radeonhd doesn't have any acceleration for that card yet.
mirak: I don't need 3D
MostAwesomeDude: And Xv is probably faster than OpenGL for videos.
mirak: I just need video overlay
mirak: I wonder how can ati pretend they support it on linux, without video playback, that's pathetic
marcheu: mirak: why don't you use xv instead of opengl ? it should be faster
mirak: MostAwesomeDude, radeonhd doesn't supporte Xv ?
mirak: marcheu, it doesn't work
MostAwesomeDude: mirak: We need to use the 3D engine on those cards, and we don't have docs for those yet.
mirak: there is no vsync with overlay on the fgrlx drivers
marcheu: ah, so you want vsync too
mirak: MostAwesomeDude, you need 3D engine to play video ?
MostAwesomeDude: mirak: Well, there's no overlay on newer Radeons.
mirak: my computer is a Q9300, and it can't handle a 1080p stream without Xv
mirak: why ?
mirak: I am going to buy an nvidia card for few bucks
MostAwesomeDude: 'k.
yangman: mirak: there's no dedicated 2D hardware. it's done through the 3D pipelines
MostAwesomeDude: mirak: If you're itching to spend a "few bucks", r5xx-series Radeons cost like $30-50 and are fully supported.
MostAwesomeDude: Anything X1950 and earlier.
mirak: I am not even sure recent fglrx version supports Xv
mirak: I prefer buy a crap gforce
mirak: I have two pci xpress slot
mirak: I used a 6600gt recently along the ati 4850, but I needed it in another computer
mirak: So it means that ATI will never be able to have smooth playback for videos ?
mirak: MostAwesomeDude, ?
yangman: why's that? it's not as if no one is working on it
MostAwesomeDude: mirak: It means that when we get docs, we'll make it work.
MostAwesomeDude: "Never" is pretty strong language.
MostAwesomeDude: For example, "nVidia will *never* give us documentation." :3
mirak: you work on fglrx also ??
MostAwesomeDude: mirak: No.
mirak: ati sucks
mirak: nvdia sucks
MostAwesomeDude: When AMD gives us documentation, we'll make stuff work on r6xx.
yangman: mirak: none of us are ATI developers. we are people that work on, or are interested, in the radeonhd driver
mirak: I have nothing against you of course
mirak: :)
goto: Hello, Im using openSUSE 11 with an GA-MA78GM-S2H Mainboard which has an hd3200(R600) onboard. how can i use the radeonhd driver? radeonhd was installed by default, but if I write Driver "fbdev" to Driver "radeonh" and restart X i got an Error "X could not start" because of wrong configuration
goto: can anyone help?
goto: Driver "radeonhd" i mean...
miinar: hi
miinar: could someone help me with xinerama setup?
miinar: maybe with a good example config which shows to realize this with the radeonhd driver?
miinar: if someone is here *and* does not sleep ^^
sytse: I guess not :)
sytse: I know I'm asleep
sytse: nn
miinar: ^^
miinar: hmm... maybe I should sleep now
