Ferocanis: does radeonhd need working dri2?
Ferocanis: i've just updated to git X, but i'm having trouble getting dri working
Ferocanis: my Xorg.0.log is here: http://rafb.net/p/jAeX9N35.html
Ferocanis: seems to me that the important stuff is around line 280
airlied: Ferocanis: missing kernel module
Ferocanis: do i need to build the radeon module to use radeonhd? or are you talking about the DRM support in general?
airlied: Ferocanis: yup radeon kernel module
Ferocanis: hrm
Ferocanis: okay, that's news to me
Ferocanis: alright, trying again
Ferocanis: that could have gone better
Ferocanis: supposedly dri is loaded
Ferocanis: but acceleration isn't working and pulling yakuake down slows my system to a very slow crawl
Ferocanis: airlied, did you mean the kernel driver in the kernel?
airlied: Ferocanis: yes
Ferocanis: that's what i thought
Ferocanis: well, here's the latest log
Ferocanis: http://www.rafb.net/p/ZZzGXU52.html
Ferocanis: can you tell me what i'm doing wrong?
airlied: Ferocanis: all looks good..
Ferocanis: =/
Ferocanis: airlied, should i be using xaa or exa?
agd5f: Ferocanis: either shoudl work
agd5f: Ferocanis: if you are having 3D problems, make sure you have the proper 3d driver installed
Ferocanis: well, 2d and 3d problems i think
Ferocanis: how can i test 2d acceleration
Ferocanis: ?
agd5f: Ferocanis: 2d is running fine according to your log
Ferocanis: yeah, but it seems that as soon as i pull down yakuake, my computer grinds to a halt
agd5f: what's yakuake?
Ferocanis: it's a quake-style terminal for kde
Ferocanis: it uses a scrolling animation, and i was thinking that that could be the issue
agd5f: does it use openGL?
Ferocanis: not that i'm aware of
agd5f: Ferocanis: if it uses xrender, then you should try exa
Ferocanis: okay
Ferocanis: why?
agd5f: Ferocanis: because exa accelerates render, xaa does not
Ferocanis: okay, i'll give it a try :)
Ferocanis: agd5f, exa was worse, but for some reason it only happens in kde 3.5 and not 4
Ferocanis: so i'll live with that for now
Ferocanis: about 3d accel, what do you mean by having the proper driver installed?
ndim: Interesting. With radeonhd, mplayer hangs right in the middle of the video... and with radeon, for some reason, the whole system hangs at a similar point.
MostAwesomeDude: ndim: Only that one video?
ndim: ndim: A variety.
ndim: It might have been something fishy with the kernel, though.
ndim: I have changed back from the one which panicked (judging by the LED blinking) with radeon to the kernel version before.
MostAwesomeDude: Hm.
sealion: I just tried radeonhd from git tip and had my system hard freeze when I switched VTs. Is this a common problem with this driver and HD 48xx series cards, or do you think I might have mobo/video card issues?
