Nightwulf|work: hi all
magyar: hi, what is the diff in support for r7xx chip in radeon vs radeonhd?
chithead: magyar: http://wiki.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature vs http://wiki.x.org/wiki/radeonhd%3Afeature
magyar: chithead: so radeon is a better choice
chithead: yes
magyar: hmm, so why radeonhd? what is it used for?
chithead: you will find several articles on phoronix and many posts in their forums on that topic
kepstin: you might find radeonhd useful on a BSD, iirc the radeon driver for newer cards requires linux KMS?
magyar: how can i see if 3D is enabled, i used to have a glxinfo command, but not anymore
magyar: i am on debian-amd6
magyar: i am on debian-amd64
kepstin: magyar, you should have a glxinfo command, it might be part of a 'mesa-progs' package or somesuch which you have to install seperately
kepstin: on debian, it's called "mesa-utils"
magyar: kepstin: got it, thanks
magyar: direct rendering?
kepstin: direct rendering is irrelevant, you can have directly rendered software rendering.
kepstin: glxinfo | grep 'renderer string'
kepstin: should tell you.
magyar: OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R600 (RV770 9440) 20090101 TCL DRI2
magyar: radeonhd >>Does not support
magyar: need non-free firmware apparently, which I learned to install
