Nightwulf|work: hi all
duairc: Hey, I'm running Debian sid, using Radeon HD and xv isn't working. Log here: http://netsoc.tcd.ie/~duairc/Xorg.0.log
Zajec: duairc: there are 2 known cases when EXA causes corruptions
Zajec: duairc: so it's still disabled by default
Zajec: and enabling EXA means enabling Xv
Zajec: you can't use Xv without EXA
Zajec: duairc: try this:
Zajec: Option "AccelMethod" "exa" # default shadowfb
Zajec: Option "DRI" "on"
Zajec: you will need 2.6.30 kernel od newer
duairc: I'm running 2.6.30, so I'll try that
duairc: That didn't seem to work; I've uploaded the new log file to the same address
Zajec: ok
Zajec: oops:
Zajec: (EE) RADEONHD(0): [dri] CP_INIT failed
Zajec: (EE) RADEONHD(0): RHDDRIFinishScreenInit: RHDDRIKernelInit Failed.
Zajec: i don't understand that :/
Zajec: it tools like drm bug for me...
Zajec: (--) RADEONHD(0): Detected an RV635 on an unidentified card
Zajec: this should be supported fine
agd5f: check dmesg
duairc: agd5f: What should I be looking for in dmesg?
Zajec: duairc: dmesg | grep drm should be fine
duairc: There's an "*ERROR* Failed to load firmware!" message
agd5f: duairc: if you are running debian, you need to install the firmware-linux package
agd5f: since they have removed the cp microcode from the drm and packaged it separately
Zajec: didn't hear abouth thar earlier
duairc: agd5f: Ah okay then, thanks, I didn't know about that
Zajec: would be nice to document on wiki
Zajec: agd5f: sry for false alarm :)
Zajec: agd5f: your drm seems be bugfree :P
agd5f: np :)
duairc: agd5f: That works now, thanks!
biker_rat: MostAwesomeDude are you in?
MostAwesomeDude: biker_rat: Yep. What's cookin'?
biker_rat: I have installed sidux current, arch current, and slack64 current on my extra hard drive to be a tester to try and get opensource 3d working on my x1900GT.
MostAwesomeDude: Alrighty.
MostAwesomeDude: Current Mesa should work just fine on your card.
biker_rat: Radeonhd & slack64 seem the best place to start. Radeonhd works with shadowfb.
biker_rat: exa locks up computer.
MostAwesomeDude: AGP card?
biker_rat: xxa has terrible rendering problems but I can kill x and get back to console.
biker_rat: pci-e
MostAwesomeDude: Please don't use XAA; it is not really getting maintained much. (I don't think it's officially deprecated quite yet.)
MostAwesomeDude: What versions of kernel, DDX, Mesa?
biker_rat: I believe I have mesa 7.4.1 installed, mesa 7.4.4 is an optional extra package.
biker_rat: Kernel is 2.6.29.5, what is DDX?
MostAwesomeDude: xf86-video-ati or xf86-video-radeonhd.
biker_rat: radeonhd radeon is a complete lock up
MostAwesomeDude: It doesn't sound like your lockup is due to the normal things. :T
biker_rat: I need to take a 5 minute break.
biker_rat: The card works perfectly with catalyst. The card isn't broken. It's a driver issue.
biker_rat: Sorry for the interruption. I had to eat my salad and finish dinner.
biker_rat: Are you there MostAwesomeDude?
MostAwesomeDude: Yeah, I am.
MostAwesomeDude: I'm thinking of why this might happen.
biker_rat: I'm going to try xaa, I may have typed xxa. I will be back in 2 minutes.
biker_rat: Slightly different, but not much.
biker_rat: MostAwesomeDude xlog http://pastebin.com/meb18883
biker_rat: MostAwesomeDude Xlog old http://pastebin.com/d5394a870
MostAwesomeDude: biker_rat: I have no idea TBH. I don't do radeonhd.
biker_rat: Do you want me to try with radeon? It will lock up my system and I will have to do a hard reset, but it is possible ther will be a log.
biker_rat: We can continue on radeon channel.
