Nightwulf|work: hi all
avis: anyone here happen to know what radeon chipset the ATI v7200 workstation card has ?
brot: avis: you could try if lspci shows the chipset name.
avis: thank you
avis: hmm it has the R520GL chipset. is that the same chipset used in some desktop (non-workstation) cards?
libv: avis: yeah, we even have those cards here
avis: ahh ok. i'm wondering what desktop chipset it might share that way i could compare it to nvidia geforce cards in terms of speed
libv: r520 at lower clockspeeds and with lower memory iirc
avis: thanks
brot: err
brot: someone here knows if there is a way to donate something to the radeonhd devs ?
libv: brot: yeah, send the patches to the ml :p
libv: brot: suse or amd people shouldn't need much in the way of hw donations :)
libv: but some other people might be happy to receive things which will help them advance the driver
adamk: Or you could send me a personal check :-)
brot: ok. i dont have that much programming knowledge to help, but that will be fixed in the next 2 semesters, as i am going to study computer science :)
libv: adamk: preferably with the amount left blank, right ;p
adamk: That works for me :-)
brot: so i thought about donating some money, or maybe even hardware now :)
ndim: egbert: Shall I push http://ndim.fedorapeople.org/stuff/radeonhd/patches/0001-Add-forgotten-string-constant-for-PAL_TV_CV.patch ?
ndim: That should make the list complete :)
libv: brot: the suse and amd people get a wage for doing this work, and the hw should be provided for too :)
libv: brot: but people like ndim here are doing this in their spare time :)
libv: brot: not that any of use will say no to being bought a beer at some event like fosdem or so, but that usually works against writing good code :)
brot: hehe.
parapente: hi!
parapente: are the radeon 4850 cards supported through radeonhd?
parapente: do I have to download the radonhd driver from git to get support for that card?
brot: you have to use the git version for that.
parapente: thank you brot
parapente: does the git version have any 2d/3d acceleration?
parapente: I just tried the fglrx driver and when I tried to open a video my X server crashed :-/
adamk: parabelboi, It has neither 2D or 3D acceleration at the moment.
brot: no, it doesnt.
dvandyk: parapente: short answer is: there is no acceleration yet
parapente: thank you guys
parapente: then I'll stick to vesa or fglrx for now and wait for the next release of radeonhd
parapente: :-)
dvandyk: 4850 is r7xx, right?
brot: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=amd_rv770_oss&num=1
dvandyk: you will have to wait a long time for that
rbmorse: Help! Trying to build radeonhd from git master, autogen.sh completes normally, with note that DRI support is disabled. Make abends with the errors:
rbmorse: ../../src/radeon_accel.c:67: error: conflicting types for ‘uint32_t’
rbmorse: /usr/include/stdint.h:52: error: previous declaration of ‘uint32_t’ was here

rbmorse: ../../src/radeon_commonfuncs.c:698: warning: unused variable ‘info’
rbmorse: Any pointers appreciated
ndim: disabled? lemme check.
ndim: rbmorse: OK, I can reproduce it.
rbmorse: OK...good to know it's not just me
ndim: rbmorse: Have you reported this on the list or in bugzilla yet?
ndim: If so, I'd like to attach my comments there.
ndim: Uh oh.
ndim: The offending commit is titled "DRI/2D: Fix build for --disable-dri." :)
ndim: rbmorse: What kind of system is that you are compiling on?
ndim: is asking egbert for a fix to rbmorse's problem on the mailing list.
rbmorse: ndim: It's a Gigabyte EP-35 DS3R/Intel E8400 with 4Gb running Ubuntu 8.04
rbmorse: Gigabyte HD3875 video
ndim: Ah. Ubuntu 8.04.
aneas: its not ubuntus fault. commit 2cc9378e219011f5521beeaa77afd08b4b354ebd broke it
ndim: aneas: Yupp.
rbmorse: ndim: Yeah....OTOH, FGLRX 8.6 runs flawlessly. I've been afraid to touch it for 6 weeks out of fear I'd break something and not be able to get it back together.
ndim: aneas: I can reproduce the issue on Fedora 9.
ndim: So I'll just wait until Egbert replies to http://lists.opensuse.org/radeonhd/2008-07/msg00387.html
rbmorse: Thanks for the info. Not critical need at the moment, but I'll keep an eye on the commits.
ndim: rbmorse: Good for you. I have not had a running fglrx in about a year, so I am awfully glad I have working alternatives.
rbmorse: ndim: Hear you. I have better luck on the desktop than the laptops with FGLRX, and even on the desktops best results come with newer hardware. I've got an X1900 that never did work quite right on FGLRX, although it was fine (as far as things went) on radeonHD 1.1
GraveDigger: hi folks! could someone please help me? i am trying the radeonhd driver on my rv770 card, git-clone and build went successful, checking the configure log revealed nothing bad, however, after starting the XServer i only get a white screen and nothing else - the system however stays responsive, i can for example switch to other VTs like this one and chat in it
GraveDigger: is that a known/common issue? if yes: what to do?
GraveDigger: :O
GraveDigger: compositing and aiglx are disabled
brot: GraveDigger: white screen sometimes has to do with improper linked opengl files
brot: in gentoo running "eselect opengl set xorg-x11" could help
GraveDigger: brot: sorry, my problem was related to the fglrx module
GraveDigger: after reading the man page i rebooted and blacklisted fglrx before
GraveDigger: that helped
brot: ah, ok, fine :)
GraveDigger: now has working X with radeonhd
brot: GraveDigger: how well does it work :)
GraveDigger: well, it works so good, that attempting to run glxgears immediately freezes my entire system :(
GraveDigger: thinks this is due to an improperly configured XServer
Obscene_CNN: when is the next official release due out?
___martin___: hi all
___martin___: egbertJust send you an email with some additional info about my black screen issuee with my F7SR Asus laptop and M72 card
dthsqd: I got radeonhd working with dual-head on the first go. no more fglrx
netman87: damn
netman87: i cant compile radeonhd
egbert: netman87: don't just curse, state your problem.
netman87: ./configure: line 19964: syntax error near unexpected token `RANDR,'
netman87: ./configure: line 19964: `XORG_DRIVER_CHECK_EXT(RANDR, randrproto)'
dmb: netman87, you have to install the x development libraries
egbert: netman87: you probably need to install an sdk package
dmb: netman87, what distro are you using?
netman87: debian
netman87: lets see
netman87: jeah, i have 2 uncheck xorg-*-dev
Temujin_: just a heads-up: typos in configure.ac prevented autogen.sh from running for me
netman87: so now trying will it compile
netman87: ./configure: line 22176: XORG_MANPAGE_SECTIONS: command not found
netman87: ./configure: line 22177: XORG_RELEASE_VERSION: command not found
netman87: problem change :)
netman87: hmm, but why there is lines "XORG_MANPAGE_SECTIONS"
Temujin_: netman87: that's the typo I was referring to
netman87: oh, i comment it out?
Temujin_: gksudo gedit configure.ac
Temujin_: on line 296 and 298(?), move the dnl to the next line
