pinchartl: hi
n0body: hi. can someone give me a hint how to check out a branch of radeonhd in git?
glisse: git checkout -b branchname origin/branchname
glisse: git branch -b branchname origin/branchname
glisse: sorry
n0body: Hm, I think I'm too stupid. Here is what I did:
n0body: git branch -b branchname origin/branchname
n0body: error: unknown switch `b'
n0body: If I want to check out the 'CS' branch, do I have to type 'git branch -b CS origin/CS'?
dvandyk: no, you need checkout, not branch
dvandyk: git checkout $existing_branchname
n0body: Thank you! It works. :) Once you know how it works it is easy and makes sense.
udovdh: hello
patogen: Is anybody alive?
patogen: I would need some help
patogen: I had/have radeonhd nicley setup
patogen: with my X1950
patogen: But with my new monitor, it cannot detect it
patogen: http://pastie.org/241186
patogen: This is my xorg.conf
patogen: "Works" ith vesa
patogen: but I want radeonhd so I can have proper settings
libv: patogen: it should fire it up ok
libv: patogen: what does the logfile tell you?
patogen: libv: One sec. I'll fire up X with radeonhd to see
patogen: libv: nohup -- http://pastie.org/241188
patogen: libv: /var/log/Xorg.0.log -- http://pastie.org/241190
patogen: I see nothing wrong with my nohup file, except (WW) RADEONHD: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:6:0:1) found
patogen: And I know you can just change BusID, but I have no idea on how to figure out which I need
patogen: libv: http://pastie.org/241200 <-- and this is a config that worked for my old monitor
Fuddl: patogen: for some reason, your x-server is using the vesa-driver instead of radeonhd
patogen: Fuddl: Hmm, could this be because of some mixed deps or whatever?
Fuddl: patogen: just for fun you could try to run the server after commenting every line out in your xorg.conf - autodetection could work these days quite satisfying
patogen: Fuddl: Hmm ok
patogen: Fuddl: I'll try that
Fuddl: patogen: ... but maybe you need the DeviceSection for your mouse - that looks special to me
patogen: It won't detect keyboard correct, but that is a walk in the park ;)
Fuddl: ... dito for your keyboard section ;)
ndim: OK, it is both radeonhd and radeon which sometimes hang in torcs.
patogen: Fuddl: Hmm no. It will not load radeonhd on an empty xorg.conf
yangman: patogen: you'd want to specifity which driver module to load
patogen: yangman: Yeah.
patogen: Well thanks for the help. Time for shower + party now
patogen: Think I'll go buy an nvidia card tomorrow
patogen: when I'm hungover
patogen: a real cheap one
patogen: should handle nes/snes
patogen: Seems more viable than using something from ATI
Fuddl: well, he could have tried at least...
gdoubleu_: anyone know if the AMD 780G can drive to 1920x1200, 24" displays?
gdoubleu_: s/to/two/
yangman: (EE) AIGLX error: dlsym for __driCreateNewScreen_20050727 failed (/usr/lib/dri/r300_dri.so: undefined symbol: __driCreateNewScreen_20050727)
yangman: this means my dri module is too old, right?
airlied: or xserver, one of the two
yangman: hm.. I thought the DRI modules in 2.6.26 were new enough. I guess I was wrong
airlied: yangman: nothing to do with kernel
airlied: yangman: its xserver vs mesa issue.
airlied: you need X.org 1.5 for Mesa 7.1 stuff
yangman: well then, I'm clearly wrong
yangman: my server is too old then. still 1.4
airlied: it just stop you running compiz.
airlied: normal 3D stuff should work.
yangman: hm...
yangman: just gave the new master a whirl, and it clearly wasn't accelerated properly
yangman: hm... log is still saying 2D acceleration is disabled due to DRI. I thought quick_and_dirty_2d is supposed to fix that
agd5f: yangman: it does. you are sure you updated properly?
yangman: (II) RADEONHD: version 1.2.1, built from git branch master, commit c2139d8c
yangman: hm.. no, that's not the latest at all
yangman: oops, here we are
yangman: http://pastebin.ca/1083016
agd5f: yangman: re-run autogen.sh
yangman: ah, that worked
yangman: I always forget that after major code changes
yangman: awesome. working great
agd5f: yangman: great!
yangman: Xv is working beautifully as well
yangman: now I can go change my video players back :)
yangman: so, M52 +1 :)
yangman: great work as always everyone
patogen: Hmm. I was cursing earlier about my X1950
patogen: with radeonhd
patogen: now I'm kinda drunk
patogen: so of course i fixed it
patogen: radeonhd + DVI => failure with BenQ G2400W
patogen: radeonhd + D-sub -> DVI => Win
bridgman: scratches head...
patogen: I connected screen via D-sub an convert to DVI to graphics card
patogen: and then it worked
bridgman: Ahh, d-sub from the monitor and adapter going to DVI-I on the card ?
bridgman: I was picturing it the other way round...
bridgman: ... which was wierd
patogen: bridgman: yep
patogen: drunk idea to test
patogen: but works
patogen: so now I'm happy with my 24" WS screen + working drivers
patogen: nes/snes + movies <3
bridgman: great... sounds like a nice setup
patogen: yup and soon I'll have a kick ass apartment
patogen: a new spare job
patogen: and school starts soon (I love school)
patogen: life's pretty good.
bridgman: sounds good... and video works
bridgman: patogen: there are a couple of HPD-related options for radeonhd which might let you run with the dvi connector; I think they are something like
