Soul_keeper: is there no command for phoronix-test-suite to run all installed suites ?
Soul_keeper: just now got all 14GB of the thing installed ...
ndim: wonders what happens when he builds radeonhd git on an F9 system right now. The 3D/DRI/etc/Mesa awesomeness is still somewhere in updates-testing. Will the radeonhd driver compiled with pre-awesomeness stuff installed later suddenly do 3D if requested?
patogen: If I understand correct, it's better to use radeonhd than ati for 570, if you do not need 3D support?
sonne: y
rbrett: patogen: I don't think there'll be a major difference either way
patogen: rbrett: OK. I basicallly need drivers for 1) Having trans terminals with xcompmgr and 2) Having video playback so radeonhd is fine? fglrx is bad for my card and vesa is good ... but too slow
MostAwesomeDude: patogen: Radeon will have faster video playback until textured video is ported to radeonhd.
patogen: MostAwesomeDude: Radeon = radeonhd? I'm very confused about all the different drivers for ati cards
MostAwesomeDude: patogen: radeon is xf86-video-ati
MostAwesomeDude: Long story short, radeon is the only driver left in that package; the other ATI drivers were split off.
patogen: MostAwesomeDude: So xf86-video-ati is better for what I need? :)
MostAwesomeDude: patogen: For fast video, yes.
MostAwesomeDude: Both drivers support Composite effects.
patogen: MostAwesomeDude: OK thank you very much :)
ndim: patogen: Last time i checked xf86-video-ati vs xf86-video-radeonhd for video, radeonhd may have used more CPU cycles due to more software scaling or stuff, but -ati made the voltage regulators chirp in an obnoxious way. YMMV. :)
ndim: Oh, and -ati, due to using DRI, triggered a bug in the kernel which makes fast user switching impossible.
ndim: But there have been updates since.
patogen: fast user switching?
patogen: what is that?
ndim: patogen: The thing where you have user foo logged in, click on the applet, log in as bar, and then can switch back to foo basically instantly.
ndim: patogen: With the full desktop remaining running
ndim: And when user foo has his screen locked, user moo can just get there, log in as moo, so something and log out again, without user foo's session being affected in any way.
ndim: patogen: Stuff like that
patogen: ndim: Aha! I don't need any of that, but good to know :)
the-me: hmm cute
the-me: on my x1250 the gamma is quite normal, on my desktop white and grey seems to be very white (^^). If I load fglrx the gamma is normal again. I made a screenshot with the loaded radeonhd driver and on the screenshot it seems normal, too: http://img181.imageshack.us/my.php?image=radeonhdof4.png
the-me: it's a Sapphire X1650 Pro card and I can't adjust my tft in the way, that it seems normal
the-me: for example the title bar of firefox on this screenshot is white
Anvil: hm, X11 server not starting with X3200 and radeonhd pulled from today's git.. i just got a lame "no screens found".
Anvil: my distro's fedora 9 on x86_64
Anvil: i think it's emmes who told me it was supported some few days ago >)
Anvil: the xorg.conf sounds good since s/radeonhd/vesa/ make it starts ok
tulcod: Anvil: off-topic: the s/a/b/ syntax is for replacing text...
tulcod: Anvil: it's ripped out of context in your last sentence :)
tulcod: ...
tulcod: or i am just being ignorant/stupid
tulcod: :)
tulcod: so sup
Anvil: (I meant : if i replace radeonhd by vesa in xorg.conf, the X11 server starts correctly)
coffee1: Anvil sucks dick.
coffee1: lulz
