Tigerchen: hey everyone
MostAwesomeDude: Hey.
dmb: hi
Tigerchen: wo so many people at this early time
Tigerchen: *wow
Tigerchen: wonders if these two are chatting at work ;)
dmb: not that early
dmb: 2:11am fo rme
yangman: it's 23:11 for me
dmb: yeh, way too early for you Tigerchen :D
Tigerchen: 8am here
dmb: work i'm guessing?
dmb: or a very very late party
Tigerchen: and I'm sitting in the pc-pool of my uni and am waiting if any stupid students come here to ask me questions about the stupid ford-fulkerson they have to prog until today
MostAwesomeDude: 11:16 PM here.
Tigerchen: and the guy i want to help so he won't flunk this lecture the second time is still in bed i think... NARF
MostAwesomeDude: I just don't sleep.
Tigerchen: 11pm is not really a time to go to bed, is it?
MostAwesomeDude: Well, I am told that people sleep before 12.
MostAwesomeDude: But I'm still unsure on the concept.
dmb: Tigerchen, your a teacher?
airlied: damns you all, I can't stay up past 10 most nights :)
dmb: airlied, well, what time do you get up?
Tigerchen: dmb: tutor
dmb: oh
airlied: dmb: 6-7am.
dmb: well that explains it
MostAwesomeDude: airlied's sleep schedule is like mine, but we're in different time zones.
MostAwesomeDude: He gets up and goes to bed at normal times, I sleep in and then stay up all night. :3
airlied: I do miss deep hacking session..
Tigerchen: hmm, actually i wondered if i could possibly help to solve the lid-close-garbled-screen-issue, but somehow it looks like the right persons are still @home or at least not here
Tigerchen: hmm, somehow direct rendering dies if i suspend, could that be?
MostAwesomeDude: Tigerchen: LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose help? Using AIGLX? radeon or radeonhd?
Tigerchen: drmOpenByBusid: drmGetBusid reports pci:0000:01:00.0
Tigerchen: (II) [drm] DRM interface version 1.0
Tigerchen: (EE) [drm] Could not set DRM device bus ID.
Tigerchen: (EE) RADEONHD(0): [dri] DRIScreenInit failed. Disabling DRI.
Tigerchen: strange
Tigerchen: i thought i had dri when i last bootet
MostAwesomeDude: Hmm.
Tigerchen: ah, had to kill X in the meantime, now i remember
Tigerchen: and it seems that it didn't enable dri on the restart
dmb: thats probably a radeonhd dri problem
dmb: (guessing)
MostAwesomeDude: Tigerchen: Does DRI work inside X?
MostAwesomeDude: glxgears, etc.
Tigerchen: normally it works, i could also restart X and look what happens
Tigerchen: and gears actually work but software-rendered
MostAwesomeDude: Hmm.
MostAwesomeDude: Would it be possible for you to try with radeon?
MostAwesomeDude: Figure out whether it's a DRM or a radeonhd problem.
Tigerchen: sure, 1 mom
Tigerchen: just have to build current radeon
Tigerchen: ok, seems not to happen with radeon
Tigerchen: i check if i can reproduce it with radeonhd
Tigerchen: nope, very strange
MostAwesomeDude: Huh.
Tigerchen: hmm, 3D performance of radeonhd is significantly worse than radeon's could that be?
MostAwesomeDude: No idea TBH.
Tigerchen: at least on gears
Tigerchen: radeonhd: 12xx, radeon 19xx
MostAwesomeDude: GINAB :3
Tigerchen: ?
MostAwesomeDude: Gears Is Not A Benchmark
Tigerchen: MostAwesomeDude: ah, k, but it normally works for rough performance comparisons
MostAwesomeDude: Yeah, I know, but you should totally try openarena instead.
Tigerchen: i don't know if i really want that... isn't there something like 3dmark?
MostAwesomeDude: Don't know, to be honest. I'm not really into benchmarking.
MostAwesomeDude: 60 FPS is all I need. :)
Soul_keeper: i find that gears gives different fps at different screen positions
Soul_keeper: if it's fullscreen tho you can use it for comparisons
Tigerchen: hmm it started at exactly the same position both times, upper left corner
Tigerchen: whatever
Saist: Tigerchen : yes, something like 3Dmark is both on the way and here.
Saist: check out the Phoronix Test Suite
Tigerchen: hmm, found an abuild in bugs ...
Soul_keeper: PHP Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: tandem_xmlreader in /usr/share/phoronix-test-suite/pts-core/functions/pts-functions_config.php on line 30
Soul_keeper: updated php from 4 to 5 seems to have fixed it
Soul_keeper: xml ...
MostAwesomeDude: XML?
Soul_keeper: all the tests are .xml
Soul_keeper: http://sterlingdesktops.com/results1/composite.xml
Soul_keeper: nice
Soul_keeper: anyone wanna compare results ?
Tigerchen: Soul_keeper: cheater with fglrx ...
Soul_keeper: :)
Tigerchen: Soul_keeper: which tests did you run?
Tigerchen: or what was your commandline?
Soul_keeper: phoronix-test-suite run gaming-free
Tigerchen: k
Tigerchen: would you like to run gui-toolkits
Soul_keeper: ok hold on
Tigerchen: somehow the files for gaming-free won't dl here
Soul_keeper: http://global.phoronix-test-suite.com/index.php?k=profile&u=soul-16745-13237-10292
Soul_keeper: i noticed a few errors during that run, so they might not be accurate
Tigerchen: still running here...
Tigerchen: the scroll-test took ages
Soul_keeper: those games in the test looked pretty nice
Soul_keeper: i havn't seen a windows game in a few years, so i'm impressed easily :)
Soul_keeper: http://global.phoronix-test-suite.com/index.php?k=profile&u=edman007-6118-16404-13644 i just talked with this guy, he's got 8 cores, 64-bit, and higher vid card mem clocks so he smokes me
Soul_keeper: phoronix-test-suite install etqw-demo this is gonna take over 1hr to download
Soul_keeper: snagging it off the torrent
sytse: Soul_keeper: he's got a measly 1680x1050 resolution though ;-)
sytse: clear case of 'shoulda spent that dual xeon motherboard money on screens' ;-)
Soul_keeper: heh
sytse: (oh yeah, and 8 GB of memory still doesn't come too cheap yet either)
MostAwesomeDude: dodo1122: Morning.
MostAwesomeDude: You're my cue to go sleep, lawl.
sytse: Soul_keeper: anyway, he smokes you on the fact that he runs slamd64 instead of slack alone ;-))
dodo1122: MostAwesomeDude: ?
ndim: Hmm. radeonhd(4) appears to be quite lagging behind the code and other places of documentation.
sytse: ah, looky here, we have someone who wants to contribute some documentation ;-)
crimer: :)
ndim: sytse: Guess who has written radeonhd(4) in the first place.
sytse: lol
sytse: :)
ndim: GNAH.
ndim: Who the heck came up with that x.org wiki TextCha?
ndim: How should I know Nvidia GPU names?
Death_Syn: sounds vendor biased
Terman: ok, after quite a long time of xf86-video-ati I'm finally back to radeonhd (thanks to hw-scaling :)
Terman: one thing that hasn't changed is that the fb-console is still flickering slightly after the first start of x
Terman: (ibm t60 with x1400 mobility)
Terman: oh and one other thing: is there an eta for both, 2d and 3d simultanously
Terman: oh, and last thing: radeonhd gives me a *much* better picture in X (tearing, flickering) than -ati. Also, -ati has some garbage in the bottom region of many buttons
yangman: Terman: http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15020
yangman: it'd be great if we can get some more people testing that bug
Terman: yangman: thanks. will test tomorrow and add a comment to the bug then
Soul_keeper: phoronix-test-suite needs a torrent for everything
michaellarabel: soul_keeper: You're free to make one :)
Soul_keeper: which file contains the MD5 sums ?
Soul_keeper: found me a bug
michaellarabel: libxml2 bug?
Soul_keeper: yeah
michaellarabel: pts/test-resources//downloads.xml
Soul_keeper: i worked around it tho
Soul_keeper: ok thanks
michaellarabel: Actually, it's not a PTS bug itself but libxml2 seemed to have a corrupted file on their main FTP server or something
Soul_keeper: only 2hr 22min left on the SPECViewperf9.0.3.tar.gz download ...
Soul_keeper: you sure it hasn't just changed or been modified ?
michaellarabel: http://www.mail-archive.com/xml@gnome.org/msg05793.html
Soul_keeper: is there an equivalent to nvclock for ati cards ?
michaellarabel: rovclock is a CLI utility, but at last check was vastly outdated and unmaintained.... that's it, for now...
Soul_keeper: ahh
