nasser: k
ni1s: So I only need to have the latest of xorg-server if I'm on != x86 to run radeonhd from git, correct?
mikkoc: if you want 3d
telmich: good morning
MostAwesomeDude: Ah, yes, I suppose it is morning.
Zarock: hello here
dutchfish: is it possible for xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd to get it working with dri support without fglrx already in debian testing/sid?
Tigerchen: fglrx isn't needed
dutchfish: i am using Radeon HD 2400 XT
Tigerchen: but you'll need mesa and x11-drm from git
dutchfish: its 610 if i am correct
Tigerchen: oh, dri only on r5xx yet iirc
dutchfish: Tigerchen: ah i have libgl1-mesa-dri 7.0.3-1 from debian testing, that wont do i gues?
dutchfish: :(
dutchfish: anything i can do?
dutchfish: i compiled xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd from the git 2 days ago
Tigerchen: i think on r6x you'll simply have to wait
dutchfish: mmm
dutchfish: ok
dutchfish: exciting times btw
Tigerchen: performance isn't great on r500 also (1/4 of fglrx's fps in gears)
Tigerchen: you're SO right ^^
dutchfish: Tigerchen: yes i know
dutchfish: if this works i will throw away ~100 nvidia cards and replace them by radeon
Tigerchen: hmm, I should check bugzilla for my lid-close-issue but I'm too lazy
Tigerchen: send them to me instead ^^
dutchfish: :)
Tigerchen: I'm a poor student and want to buy a motorbike.....
dutchfish: Tigerchen: if you live nearby you can pick one up for free
Tigerchen: and on my account are currently about 500E
dutchfish: Germany?
Tigerchen: hmm, i think this would make an 300km drive at least ^^
Tigerchen: yes
Tigerchen: eschborn (near frankfurt)
dutchfish: nearby Aachen?
dutchfish: oh i will soon be in Frankfurt
dutchfish: and neurenberg
dutchfish: i was in Frankfurt 2 weeks ago
dutchfish: anway, thx for the info
Tigerchen: np
Tigerchen: libvde: ping
Tigerchen: libv: ping
Tigerchen: egbert_away: ping
libv: Tigerchen: whatsup?
Tigerchen: wow
Tigerchen: libv: do you know something about a lid-close-garbled-screen-issue?
libv: since when did this start appearing for you?
libv: afaik, we still haven't re-enabled PIO access
Tigerchen: libv: hmm, since i switched back to radeonhd, but that was some time ago
dutchfish: the grabled screen issue is no more in 2.6.25.4 without fb
libv: well, egbert is working on code to set the scratch registers right in our driver
libv: i guess that once that is done, your screen will not garble anymore
Tigerchen: hmm, currently no fb here cause v86d segfaulted in the initramfs
Tigerchen: but still garbled screen ...
Tigerchen: libv: ah, k
libv: but then, i wonder what pain re-enabling PIO access will incur
dutchfish: and gmd segfault sometimes on shutdown
dutchfish: s/gmd/gdm
dutchfish: amd64
dutchfish: distro
libv: dutchfish: it does? have you built the driver with -O0 and -g? what does the log say?
dutchfish: libv yes, and i used -OO and -g
Tigerchen: libv: and the randr-issue?
libv: Tigerchen: which one :)
dutchfish: randr is working for me
dutchfish: but no dri :(
dutchfish: HD 2400 XT
libv: dutchfish: yeah, r600 is very much todo
Tigerchen: libv: attach external, try anything to enable external -> external gets some signal but a black one
dutchfish: this is a hell of a cool project! kudo's
Tigerchen: external flickers when i issue e.g. 'xrandr --auto' but won't show anything
libv: Tigerchen: urgh... let me get the m56 out again... i'm unable to properly focus on the code i'm working on anyway
Tigerchen: except about 1 in 100 times it shows something with garbled colors, but the right image
Tigerchen: and it won't set a different rersolution on the external than on the internal
Tigerchen: so i have a 1920x1200 panel in fromt of me which shows 1400x1050 with garbled colors (if it shows anything at all)
dutchfish: Tigerchen: i had same issue on 2.6.24-6 so i left that one
Tigerchen: I'm running 2.6.25-thinkpad
dutchfish: now i am runnig 1680 x 1050 without a glitch
Tigerchen: libv: and the 3rd thing *hides behind something* the Scaled modes won't work (at least some wont) but kill X instead
dutchfish: what git version are you curently running?
Tigerchen: 90ef4fd7
libv: Tigerchen: right
dutchfish: 11-May-2008 is the latest right?
Tigerchen: nope
Tigerchen: there was a commit somewhere around 30.5. or so
dutchfish: thats the one i am running
Tigerchen: or even yesterday i think
Tigerchen: dunno exactly
Tigerchen: libv: what's right?
Tigerchen: :confused
dutchfish: yes yesterday http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=xorg/driver/xf86-video-radeonhd;a=summary
dutchfish: git-version.sh was updated
Tigerchen: and something in the error messages
dutchfish: yup
dutchfish: are you guys on debian?
Tigerchen: here it's a gentoo with complete xorg from git
Tigerchen: and libv &co are running opensuse
dutchfish: nice melange, i am runnnig debian as i already said
Tigerchen: and currently thunderbird won't build *grml*
dutchfish: there where sec issues : http://packages.debian.org/lenny/thunderbird
dutchfish: but they are fixes now
Tigerchen: lol
Tigerchen: I'm talking about mail-client/mozilla-thunderbird-2.0.0.14
dutchfish: ah ic
Tigerchen: not some 1.5 stuff
Tigerchen: # Mozilla stopped supporting 1.5 series in October 2007
Tigerchen: from the masking-file in gentoo
dutchfish: ah well security/stability first
Tigerchen: everyone as he likes
dutchfish: but dont start a flame ;)
dutchfish: yup
Tigerchen: getEntropy() { return 4; // guaranteed to be random as chosen by fair dice roll }
Tigerchen: ;)
dutchfish: haha
dutchfish: yep
dutchfish: and it got discovered so late too
dutchfish: well, every distro has its black pages
Tigerchen: sure
Tigerchen: well, that was the reason a friend switched from deb to gentoo
dutchfish: i used RH and SuSE myself for quiet some time
Tigerchen: well it was the last point actually but anyway
Tigerchen: i started with gentoo and will stay there i think
dutchfish: well, the main point what is hloding me back is the compile everything yourself (green thinking)
dutchfish: but i gues it has its niches
dutchfish: i choose debian mainly for its packaging system
dutchfish: but for firewalling i am more found of FreeBSD
dutchfish: and suse has some strong points for a KDE desktop
Tigerchen: i simply like portage because there is nearly nothing that i needed that i didn't find somwhere in there
dutchfish: nods
Tigerchen: hmm, looks like the great black hole swallowed libv
dutchfish: would it be doable for gentoo to get it runnning within 32 mb (console desktop with a small webserver on a fairly new kernel)?
dutchfish: embedded so to speak
Tigerchen: dutchfish: uhhh, don't know, might be possible if you compile the packages on a different host
dmb: i'm a debian person as well
dutchfish: hi dmb
dmb: hey
Tigerchen: dutchfish: so the box only hs to unpack the tarballs to the fs
dutchfish: yes
dutchfish: tftp
dutchfish: i will sit there on flash
dutchfish: mmm ... i will delve into it
dutchfish: thanks
dutchfish: dmb running radeonhd succesfully?
dmb: yup, but i don't really use the packages, i compile it myself
dutchfish: dmb: on it from the git on lenny with 2.6.25-4 but not dri yet (610 on HD 2400 XT)
dmb: i'v only tried it on 2.6.24-x so far
dmb: why no dri?
dutchfish: dmb: had issues with 2.6.24-6 and i needed latecytop
dutchfish: s/latecytop/latencytop
dmb: oh
dutchfish: but 610 its not dri yet , heard that now
dutchfish: only 500
dmb: i usually compile the dri module separately
dutchfish: tell me plz
dmb: i mean drm module separately
dmb: i just git clone it, and compile it
dmb: git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/mesa/drm
dmb: compile that
dmb: then compile git mesa
dmb: and git radeonhd
dmb: and dri should work
dmb: have to run to pick up my brother, bbl
