spersaud: im trying to build the r7xx driver
spersaud: I follow the directions on the website, but there's no linux-core dir ?
adamk_: Sounds like the directions you are using are very out-of-date.
adamk_: First, I would use the 'radeon' Xorg driver, and I would follow the directions in the wiki in the topic on #radeon.
spersaud: I followed the direction to configure r6xx-r7xx driver now X wont start
spersaud: I think it went good
adamk_: Clearly something didn't go good.
adamk_: Pretty much every up-to-date distribution will automatically install the necessary open source driver for your GPU.
spersaud: adamk_: I am using debian lenny
adamk_: You really want to use a more up-to-date distribution to get 3D acceleration with the open source drivers on that GPU.
adamk_: And I have to go.
adamk_: You should stick with the radeon driver and ask on #radeon.
spersaud: adamk_: I will never use anything else
spersaud: let me see if restarting works, I did init 1 init 3 .. doubt it will but lets see
spersaud: maybe its a xorg.conf setting ?
spersaud: adamk_: here is my xorg.conf www.entracinc.com/static/xorg.conf
spersaud: can you take a look or someone else ?
adamk_: What do you mean "I will never use anything else"?
adamk_: Development on radeonhd has essentially stopped, and it's not well supported any more.
adamk_: Your GPU works with the radeon driver and, frankly, that's what you should be using.
adamk_: Now, I have to go again. My microwave just beeped at me.
woden: About half the time when I startup Fedora, the system crawls very slowly. The screen redraws very slowly, menus open very slowly, typing goes slowly because the text shows up delayed, etc. Right now I just reproduced it. How do I debug it to find out what is the problem?
woden: Should I try the radeonhd drivers instead?
woden: ATI Technologies Inc RV770 [Radeon HD 4850]
woden: Should I be using radeon or radeonHD?
Toksyuryel: probably hd, since it's specifically for 5xx/6xx/7xx
woden: Toksyuryel, How would I remove the radeon driver and install the radeonHD? I have Fedora 12.
Toksyuryel: they ought to be able to exist concurrently
Toksyuryel: just change the setting for which driver you're using
woden: ? I don't understand.
Toksyuryel: I don't know where that is in fedora
