T`: hi, anyone know why i only get 280fps with glxgears + radeonhd?
T`: is that normal?
Veza: glxinfo | grep renderer
T`: direct rendering: Yes
T`: OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer
MostAwesomeDude: T`: GINAB
T`: MostAwesomeDude, hi.. GINAB?
T`: is the software rasterizer the reason for the slow fps?
MostAwesomeDude: Gears Is Not A Benchmark
MostAwesomeDude: Additionally, you're not using accelerated 3D.
T`: i followed the radeonhd wiki.. should i be adding more options into x.org?
Nightwulf|work: hi all
CrazyTux[m]: Hey guys, I'm having a hell of time getting debian setup with a dual head DVI (dual monitors) for ATI Radeon 4850 -- any help is greatly much appreciated!
yangman: http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/HowToRandR12
CrazyTux[m]: yangman: for me?
yangman: yes
CrazyTux[m]: apt-get install lxrandr ?
CrazyTux[m]: ah its already installed.
CrazyTux[m]: I guess my problem right now is X is not starting, says "no screens"
yangman: upload your Xorg.0.log from a broken run to a pastebin servie and post the URL
yangman: I'll have a quick look
CrazyTux[m]: yangman: http://pastebin.com/f34243ac8
CrazyTux[m]: yangman: this is my xorg.conf I think it has something to do with my "Device" radeon0/1
CrazyTux[m]: yangman: http://pastebin.com/f7a90e6a8 and the .log
CrazyTux[m]: no drivers available? I've tried Driver both "ati" and gflrx
CrazyTux[m]: yangman: http://pastebin.com/f7225d048 this one works (sort of) --- but with some errors such as: (WW) VESA(0): Failed to set up write-combining range (0xd0000000,0x1000000)
yangman: are you trying to setup radeonhd?
yangman: radeonhd the driver, specifically
CrazyTux[m]: yangman: not sure... I just have the normal 4850 ATI Radeon
CrazyTux[m]: so not sure if I need it or not?
yangman: fglrx is the proprietary AMD driver for radeonhd cards
yangman: radeon and radeonhd are the open source drivers. they should both work for your card
CrazyTux[m]: yangman: I see.... I'm running Intel I7 so amd64
yangman: for radeonhd, you need to first make sure it's installed, and configure xorg.conf to use it as the driver
yangman: ie: http://yangman.ca/xorg.conf
CrazyTux[m]: yangman: is it nesc. to install radeonhd? vs what are my alternatives?
CrazyTux[m]: and what are the pros and cons.
CrazyTux[m]: yangman: you use the 4850 as well?
yangman: radeonhd has HDMI audio out support, where as radeon has tv-out support
yangman: feature wise, they're very similar otherwise
yangman: just those particular parts of the code hasn't been ported to the other
CrazyTux[m]: yangman: I see, I do have a HDMI 5.1 surround sound setup
CrazyTux[m]: yangman: so in that case I want to go -> radeonhd.
CrazyTux[m]: yangman: still here? so I do apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd and it says its already installed, but does not seem to find it? any thoughts?
yangman: what says it can't find it?
CrazyTux[m]: yangman: well nothing but what am I even really looking for/
CrazyTux[m]: yangman: is it a kernel driver? that I modprobe?
yangman: no
yangman: X driver
CrazyTux[m]: (WW) RADEONHD: More than one matching Device section for instances
CrazyTux[m]: (BusID: PCI:4:0:0) found: radeon0
CrazyTux[m]: (EE) No devices detected.
CrazyTux[m]: yangman: is the last input I get when trying with:
yangman: what xorg-server version are you running?
CrazyTux[m]: http://pastebin.com/f17d67933
CrazyTux[m]: 7
CrazyTux[m]: Xorg - X11R7 X server
yangman: the specific version of xorg-server
yangman: it should be printed near the top of Xorg.0.log
CrazyTux[m]: X.Org X Server 1.4.2
CrazyTux[m]: X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
CrazyTux[m]: or: (xorg-server 2:1.4.2-10.lenny1)
CrazyTux[m]: ?
yangman: sec
CrazyTux[m]: k
yangman: http://yangman.ca/xorg.conf use this xorg.conf instead, but get rid of the Files section, and comment out the two Option lines in the Device section
CrazyTux[m]: yangman: no devices detected
yangman: pastebin your complete Xorg.0.log
CrazyTux[m]: http://pastebin.com/f4a646fea
yangman: the version of radeonhd you have installed is too old
yangman: you'll need 1.2.4 at least for 4850 support
CrazyTux[m]: ah
CrazyTux[m]: alrighty so I'll grab a copy from git repo
CrazyTux[m]: configure.ac:68: error: possibly undefined macro: XORG_DRIVER_CHECK_EXT
CrazyTux[m]: yangman: seen this?
CrazyTux[m]: when running autogen.sh
CrazyTux[m]: ah k its on teh www
yangman: make sure you have all the necessary -devel packages installed
CrazyTux[m]: k
CrazyTux[m]: yangman: what do I need for DRI support
taiu: 2.6.30-rc kernel
taiu: or maybe drm modules from r6xx-r7xx-support branck will work
CrazyTux[m]: alrighty
CrazyTux[m]: well that seems to have worked!
CrazyTux[m]: :)
CrazyTux[m]: upgrading radeonhd
CrazyTux[m]: however
CrazyTux[m]: now I have two monitors
CrazyTux[m]: sharing the same view
CrazyTux[m]: I want side by side monitor (separate desktops)
taiu: now the HowToRandR12 link yangman pasted
taiu: although maybe that requires dri working :( don't remember...
CrazyTux[m]: yea looking at that
MaxTesla: hello
MaxTesla: I have Ubuntu 9.04 and ATI Mobility X2300 HD graphic card for my laptop how do i make it work?
MaxTesla: ello?
MaxTesla: ill be back later then
Kruglov: Hi, is the ATI Mobility X1400 supported by radeonhd ?
kevin06: Kruglov, yes
kevin06: x1400 = r5**
Kruglov: And 1.2.5 works with xorg-server-1.6.x ?
taiu: y
MaxTesla: hello anyone here?
yangman: MaxTesla: easier to simply state your specific problem, and when someone shows up, then can get back to you
MaxTesla: haha
MaxTesla: omg
MaxTesla: dude
MaxTesla: i have tried everything
MaxTesla: and everything gives me the black screen of death
MaxTesla: what is my problem
MaxTesla: the black screen of death
yangman: pastebin your Xorg.0.log
MaxTesla: wgat is the homepage link for pastebin
yangman: pastebin.com, pastebin.ca, etc
MaxTesla: and also i just reinstalled the whole unbutnu on my computer right now after trubbles
yangman: any of them is fine
MaxTesla: whilst i pastebin mr yangman can you just have a quick look at this i think this also will happen to me :(
MaxTesla: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/363238
yangman: it shouldn't
yangman: certainly not that exact bug
MaxTesla: yangman this is my pastebin http://pastebin.com/m11266a3b
yangman: Xorg.0.log
yangman: not xorg.conf
MaxTesla: sorry my bad
MaxTesla: very sorry
yangman: your Device section is also blank. you'll at least need to specifiy radeonhd as the driver there
MaxTesla: yangman i just reinstalled my ubuntu i have done nothing
MaxTesla: yangman where do i find the xorg.O.log file
yangman: ubuntu would select radeon driver by default, but it still shouldn't give you a blank screen
yangman: /var/log/
MaxTesla: yangman my xorg.o.log file is very long here is the paste bin http://pastebin.com/m2cddbbe9
MaxTesla: yangman i just came over from windows and i know ZERO about linuz well except how to get the black screen of death after wrongly installing everything :P
MaxTesla: *linux
yangman: seems fine to me. not very familiar with radeon's log, though
yangman: try removing /etc/xorg.conf entirely
MaxTesla: yangman and then what also another dude did help me a little with some installation that was before my complete reinstall which gave me more screen resolution options BUT as a result of that or my pressing wrong stuff the letters got very thick and fat
MaxTesla: yangman i will remove the file as you say
MaxTesla: yangman i do not have an xorg.conf in my etc folder
MaxTesla: yangman do you mean /etc/X11?
yangman: what was the thing you you pastebin'ed, then?
MaxTesla: that was from /etc/X11
MaxTesla: i have ubuntu 9.04 also know as jaunty
yangman: oh, right
yangman: /etc/X11/xorg.conf
MaxTesla: ok then i will delete that file now
MaxTesla: what is the command to delete it from terminal i cant delete it by clicking
yangman: rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf
yangman: you'll need a root terminal to do it
MaxTesla: so sudo first
MaxTesla: ok i have deleted it
MaxTesla: now what
yangman: restart X
MaxTesla: ok i will restart my computer if i am not back in less than 5 min i have gotten the black screen of death
MaxTesla: hello i am back
MaxTesla: cant really tell any difference
MaxTesla: yangman i am back ;)
yangman: still nothing?
MaxTesla: perhaps i have not said what i want
MaxTesla: i want my graphic card ATI Monility Radeon X2300 HD to work at full capacity
yangman: there's no such thing as a X2300 HD ;)
MaxTesla: yangman I want to be able to watch movies without the cammera beeing 5 steps behind and without the whole video becoming very pixly as soon as somebody moves
MaxTesla: yangman ooh yeah wanna bet?
MaxTesla: http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-X2300.3711.0.html
MaxTesla: http://ati.amd.com/products/mobilityradeonx2300/index.html
MaxTesla: i have either that one or as it says on the sticker Monility Radeon 2300 HD BUT when i checked in windows it said Mobility Radeon X2300 HD
MaxTesla: hang on the first link is wrongish i only have 128mb
yangman: *sigh* I hate marketing names
MaxTesla: yangman you and me both
yangman: anyways, from the log, everything's working properly
yangman: I thought you were having issues bringing up any screen at all
MaxTesla: i have that problem if i install EnvyNG or any kind of drivers
MaxTesla: i want to install drivers to get my graphic card to work better
yangman: depends on your definition of better
MaxTesla: well in windows i could watch movies without the picture becoming totaly blury when someone moved
yangman: anyways, the guys in #radeon will be able to help you with any radeon issues. this channel is for the radeonhd driver
MaxTesla: yangman ok i have a direct question for the readeonhd
MaxTesla: hang on for 1 sec
MaxTesla: yangman go here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonHD
MaxTesla: yangman scroll down
MaxTesla: yangman i was able to complete all of the things untill "Building radeonhd"
MaxTesla: yangman when i try to copy paste that section then the terminal kick starts by itself without me beeing able to write in everything and the terminal installs something
yangman: which is what the commands do
MaxTesla: ok
MaxTesla: yangman well that page kinda semi helps me
MaxTesla: yangman but i still dont get any nice video options, ok then i will try the channel radeon
MaxTesla: yangman o also forgot to mention when you log in at the computer manifacturer home page and dowload the drivers for their specific computer for windows it says on the file info Mobility Radeon X2300 HD
MaxTesla: yangman check out http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/com/support/downloads.html
MaxTesla: yangman and then check out Amilo Pi 2530 which is the name of my computer
Tanktalus: odd ... got a cursor corruption again, and I'm pretty sure I've compiled the latest git and even rebooted...
CrazyTux[m]: Hey guys, trying to get two monitors working with xrandr
CrazyTux[m]: Whats the difference between Monitor-LVDS / Monitor-VGA
MaxTesla: dont know i can not help you
MaxTesla: i can just say hello ;)
MostAwesomeDude: CrazyTux[m]: The first is a digital display, like a laptop LCD, and the second one is a VGA output for a traditional monitor.
CrazyTux[m]: MostAwesomeDude: so if I have two displays (external) connected to my Dual Head DVI ATI Radeon 4850
CrazyTux[m]: MostAwesomeDude: what would I do in that case? Monitor-DVI-0
MostAwesomeDude: CrazyTux[m]: DVI and VGA, probably. Or DVI-0 and DVI-1, depending on your card.
CrazyTux[m]: hmmmm also not sure if this matters or not but I'm using a DVI to VGA convertor (my monitors are VGA)
CrazyTux[m]: but my card has dual DVI
MostAwesomeDude: Should all work.
Tanktalus: CrazyTux[m]: apparently, xrandr is referring to my two DVI (digital) monitors as DVI-I_1/digital and DVI-I_2/digital. Change digital to analog for the VGA versions.
CrazyTux[m]: yea
CrazyTux[m]: Tanktalus: thats how mine is...
CrazyTux[m]: DVI-I_1/analog connected + DVI-I_2/analog connected
Tanktalus: It did take me a long time to get it set up and working, but it is doable :-)
CrazyTux[m]: Tanktalus: mind sharing your xorg.conf ?
CrazyTux[m]: Tanktalus: :)
Tanktalus: ok.
Tanktalus: http://dpaste.com/44471/
Tanktalus: originally, I could only get it working using krandr. But that helped me figure it out and update my xorg.conf to get the dual monitor thing working before I even logged in.
Tanktalus: Now if I could just figure out how to get different consoles on different monitors when I'm not running X... :-)
Tanktalus: CrazyTux[m]: mostly, you just want to pay attention to the monitor sections.
Tanktalus: You'll notice that if you remove the comments, there's almost nothing to them ;-)
CrazyTux[m]: Tanktalus: looking sorry was on phone
CrazyTux[m]: Tanktalus: VP201s why do you call this Monitor? when I dont see it defined?
Tanktalus: That's probably commented out - or at least not used.
Tanktalus: That's when I didn't know what names to use, so I just called it the name of the monitor (ViewSonic VP201s 20.1" monitor)
CrazyTux[m]: lol hmmmm
CrazyTux[m]: thats what I did too
CrazyTux[m]: lol
CrazyTux[m]: earlier
Tanktalus: krandr told me the names to use, and then suddenly it started working ;-)
CrazyTux[m]: Tanktalus: that is the only screen I see defined though in your conf.
CrazyTux[m]: Tanktalus: that uses that random monitor name
Tanktalus: There are two montiors defined
Tanktalus: The screen section seems ignored ;-)
CrazyTux[m]: ah
Tanktalus: And I'm not playing with again until I have to ;-)
CrazyTux[m]: Tanktalus: hmmm I'm still not getting two separate monitors :(
Tanktalus: load up krandr ... ;-)
Kaapa: hello everyone
Kaapa: after having a nasty experience trying to connect my laptop to a projector, I decided to get this thing propertly configured
Kaapa: I'm not too sure if radeonhd is the suited driver for my card
Kaapa: here's what lspci reports: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M76 [Radeon Mobility HD 2600 Series]
