rmh3093: hey, just wanted to let you know I will test out those external display changes you made in an hour or 2
rmh3093: how close is that scaling code from being done?
agd5f: rmh3093: you can grab it from egbert's rhd tree
agd5f: on teh scaler branch
rmh3093: so many branches to merge together
rmh3093: egbert, your scaler branch with your connected changes applied on top seem to be working well
rmh3093: scaling working on one display
rmh3093: havent tried it on extended displays yet
rmh3093: i have a custom radeonhd driver going
rmh3093: with scaler support
rmh3093: and dri
rmh3093: and a fixed connection table :D
egbert: rmh3093: nice :)
rmh3093: keep up all the good work guys
egbert: rmh3093: currently scaling is only allowed for fixed mode displays (laptop panels)
egbert: rmh3093: thinking of extending it to all devices which have a fixed size and a preferred resulution - if i can find this out.
mikkoc: libvde: that works!!
rmh3093: so what will happen when i try to extend my panel to my hdtv
egbert: the internal scaler seems to be so much nicher than the ones on external cards.
mikkoc: oups..is libv = libvde?
egbert: mikkoc: yeah, same guy ;)
mikkoc: ok :P
egbert: rmh3093: so far it only works with laptop panels. so not much will happen.
egbert: rmh3093: however, if you want to play around: there is a policy function.
egbert: rmh3093: i found out that scaling in some tvs really sucks.
rmh3093: well i guess im asking if my my tv cant scale, cant i just match my lcd to the tv
egbert: rmh3093: it will match the panel to the tv.
rmh3093: now all I need is a randr gui that actually works ;)
rmh3093: i might add that to my project list for this summer
rmh3093: are there any tricks for getting my whole desktop to show up on a TV
rmh3093: the borders are always cut off
rmh3093: like somes sort of overscan
rmh3093: cant see ~24 pixels all around
egbert: rmh3093: you have a border on the tv?
egbert: what's your native mode there?
egbert: rmh3093: btw: didn't you have problems with getting anyting displayed on the tv once?
egbert: rmh3093: did this get fixed?
rmh3093: not a border
rmh3093: what i mean is
rmh3093: the resolution for the tv right now is 1280x720
rmh3093: and it seems like that res is ~24 pixel larger on each size
rmh3093: so 48 in total for the x and y directions
rmh3093: like the TV is smaller than 1280x720
rmh3093: but i think i've noticed that any time i have ever hooked any computer to a tv
rmh3093: and yes on the normal branch i can not get into extended mode
rmh3093: because I couldnt set my panel to 1280x720
rmh3093: with your scaler branch I can do that
egbert: rmh3093: ah, understand. right. the scaler sets it to this size.
rmh3093: xrandr --output PANEL --mode 1280x720Scaled --left-of DVI-D_1
rmh3093: ^^ that works
rmh3093: with the other radeon driver I can get 1680x1050 on the panel though
rmh3093: and and do --left-of
egbert: rmh3093: ok, but this should work with radeonhd, too, doesn't it?
rmh3093: i havent been able to do that
egbert: rmh3093: what do you get when you try? is 1680x1050 listed as a panel mode?
egbert: rmh3093: when you do xrandr -q?
rmh3093: 1680x1050 is my native resolution
rmh3093: i can normally get that
rmh3093: when i try running the command i posted above with 1680x1050 i get:
rmh3093: xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed
egbert: rmh3093: ok, could you try and add '--crtc 1'?
rmh3093: u know what just worked
egbert: rmh3093: ok. but 1680x1050Scaled doesn't make that much sense.
egbert: i should really weed out the native resolution from the synthed modes.
rmh3093: where in that line should --crtc 1 go?
rmh3093: xrandr: cannot find crtc for output PANEL
egbert: hrm, i thought you tried this.
egbert: rmh3093: can you send me a log file?
rmh3093: su -
rmh3093: Xorg log?
egbert: yeah, please.
egbert: rmh3093: thx!
egbert: rmh3093: didn't you have problems getting any output on the tv once?
rmh3093: yeah I did
rmh3093: on the regular master branch
rmh3093: im on your scaler branch atm
rmh3093: with your connection table commits cherry picked
egbert: rmh3093: hrm, interesting. so the scaler branch makes your tv light up, while the laster branch has problems?
egbert: rmh3093: can you give me the sha1 of this commit?
rmh3093: is your last commit
rmh3093: actually didnt cherry pick, i juse used git web to extract your other 2 patches then applied them
rmh3093: Always assume the rhdOutput struct in rhdRROutputModeFixup() has its CRTC member set.
rmh3093: ^^ that is 2nd last commit message
rmh3093: i need to jump in the shower, brb
egbert: rmh3093: ok, that's the top of the scaler branch.
egbert: rmh3093: no prob. i need to run soon, too.
egbert: rmh3093: talk to you later.
