so1: hi
so1: is libv here?
Arrow: Hi all
Arrow: question...is radionhd part of the regular xorg distrubution?
Arrow: xorg never picks it and it's the only one that works with the 3870
Arrow: I can't even 'force' it to work..where would I look to see if it's even there?
Arrow: anyone?
airlied: Arrow: there hasn't been an xorg release since radeonhd start
airlied: started
Arrow: nods
Arrow: well that explains it
Arrow: so I have to build and insert
airlied: most distros ship radeon and radeonhd
Arrow: where would I find it?
airlied: what distro do you rn?
airlied: run even.
Arrow: used to know back in the day...but the file system has changed since then
Arrow: Kubuntu
airlied: so it should be the latest kubuntu I think.
airlied: or you can build it yourself.
airlied: which means the wiki above is probably a good place.
Arrow: smiles and RTFM's
Arrow: "driver file location" returns NO matches
airlied: Arrow: you have to build from source, there is no binary.
Arrow: great another thing to compile
Arrow: then how would a distro have it?
airlied: because they built it.
airlied: its only going to be in Ubuntu 8.04 though
Arrow: then it's put somewhere in the X11 tree?
Arrow: then i can find it and see if it's there?
airlied: Arrow: are you running 8.04?
Arrow: so the files would be like radeonhd.( some file extension)?
Arrow: so I can search the whole puter for it
airlied: it would normally be /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/radeonhd_drv.so
Arrow: thanks
airlied: Arrow: if you didin't install it, it won't be there magically
Arrow: :)
airlied: it would be in a separate package
airlied: probably called xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd
Arrow: so apt-get blah blah
airlied: you can try apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd
Arrow: ok fair enough
airlied: if you are runing 8.04 version
Arrow: well I probably have to compile anyway...amd64 and all the :/
Arrow: sighs and keeps using that 'vesa' for now
Arrow: all that even
Arrow: and thanks airlied
Arrow: :)
Arrow: sometimes it s*&%s being on the bleeding edge
Arrow: libv told me when you buy one of these RV6xx thingies and want to run Linux...you become a 'developer' by default :)
Arrow: well thanks again I'm off to toil away at it :0
