jim_ec2: wow 99 nicks in here
jim_ec2: wanted to pop in and say thanks, I have an rv770 and the ati-drivers (binary) wouldn't work
jim_ec2: found out about radeonhd and got an overlay with ebuilds for it
jim_ec2: was working on xorg 1.5.3 in no time
jim_ec2: im having the keyboard repeating keys problem that I think I saw in the wiki on my other computer
jim_ec2: hello Zajec
Zajec: hi
jim_ec2: could you check the wiki for me? I don't have x running atm
Zajec: what part? :)
jim_ec2: im having the keyboard repeating keys problem that I think I saw in the wiki on my other computer
jim_ec2: i think it's the xorg 1.5.3 specific, not radeonhd
jim_ec2: radeonhd is a champ compared to the binary driver :)
jim_ec2: so glad to have my rv770 card working
Zajec: repeating keys site:wiki.x.org gives no results
jim_ec2: check 1.5.3 maybe
jim_ec2: it's something about the input things have changed
jim_ec2: yeah option "AllowEmptyInput" "false"
jim_ec2: oh nevermind
jim_ec2: that option I added as a workaround so my old config would work
jim_ec2: which made my mouse work
jim_ec2: but I figured out that 1.5.3 uses hald and it wasn't running on this machine
jim_ec2: now I just needed to remove the allowemptyinput workaround
jim_ec2: now it's time to instally my new 1.5tb drive :D
udovdh: jim_ec2, be sure to use lvm
jim_ec2: udovdh: why is that?
udovdh: partitioning is harder to move around
udovdh: with a physical volume you can add logical volumes
udovdh: and extend them, mostly on the fly
udovdh: no reboots, no ghost/gparted/etc
jim_ec2: yeah, but wouldn't the fs have to support expanding or contracting in size?
mjt: always uses plain partitions instead of lvm... more stright forward, less fragile.
udovdh: most do?
udovdh: ext2/3/4
udovdh: jfs
udovdh: etc
udovdh: mjt does make backups?
udovdh: lvm has been solid for me
jim_ec2: mjt: yeah i've seen it on boxes run by other admins...seemed fragile to me
mjt: i don't want to use something that require me to use backups... ;)
udovdh: mjt your disks require you to make backups
mjt: (note the smile at the end)
mjt: no my disks don't
mjt: raided
jim_ec2: except for the first disk with 3 simple partitions, all them will be fully allocated
udovdh: then still, but I see what you have
udovdh: raid here as well, with dm-crypt and lvm
udovdh: except /boot al crypted
jim_ec2: i may toy with lvm on my next system...for now I need to get my 500gb drive back in this one and install new 1.5tb drive
udovdh: sounds doable
jim_ec2: yup, glad I got power again before I fell asleep
jim_ec2: storms nocked out power for at least 3 hours
makomk: Curious. It seems 2b725913b1a91f2d178e77cd542c35067fc16d7c "R6xx/R7xx cleanup: Move shaders to r600_shader.c" broke radeonhd on my 2600XT.
Roberth1: hello does kernel 2.6.29 have an updated drm that supports the new stuff in git?
Roberth1: like 2 accel for r700 etc
Roberth1: *2D
Zajec: no
Zajec: 2.6.30 should be first supporting R6xx-R7xx
Roberth1: Zajec: okay
Roberth1: does the intel driver has its own irc channel?
Zajec: don't know
kostekjo: hi, is mobility radeon x1250 supportded by the radeonhd driver?
Honk: yes
kostekjo: so if I use radeonhd, i will have dri working on both displays(Laptop lcd + external lcd ) ?
yangman: kostekjo: yes
kostekjo: fantastic, it will work with xinerama ?
yangman: yes
agd5f: kostekjo: randr xinerama hints, not zaphod style dualhead
kostekjo: agd5f: I don't understand you. I'm running a gentoo with 2.6.28 amd64 kernel, xorg-server-1.5.3. I would like to have two screens in xinerama (1: 1280x800 2: 2048x1152). Now I have the fglrx driver and I have 3d suppord only on the laptop display and randr isn't working
agd5f: kostekjo: you can use randr to get dualhead, but you can't use randr to get zaphod style dualhead: i.e., two independant screens (:0 and :1)
yangman: kostekjo: if you're not clear on what zaphod is, then it's probably not what you want ;)
yangman: kostekjo: and make sure you have mesa-7.2 installed
kostekjo: i want to have a one screen (the fglrx BigDesktop) but i want to use randr for rotating one od the LCDs(becouse its a pivot)
yangman: kostekjo: http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/HowToRandR12
yangman: I don't recall if there are cases where rotation doesn't work. easiest to just try it
agd5f: if your desktop is larger than 2kx2k, rotation will fallback to sw
AStorm: agd5f, why? can't do render to texture then rotate? :)
AStorm: that should go up to 8kx8k
agd5f: AStorm: 8k limit is only r6xx/r7xx
AStorm: hmm, right
agd5f: r1xx-r4xx and rs6xx are 2k
agd5f: r5xx is 4k
AStorm: do I smell a switch-limit?
agd5f: proper fix is to use separate surfaces for each head, but that involves xserver changes
agd5f: see ajax' shatter stuff
AStorm: agd5f, yeah, but that will take a release to fix - for now, I think a simple switchable limit will suffice.
agd5f: AStorm: what do you mean? we already take into account the limits for each chip
agd5f: the 2kx2k applies to the X1250 kostekjo as asking about
agd5f: as I said, the limit is 4k on r5xx and 8k on r6xx/r7xx
kevin06: radeonhd work with xorg 1.6 ?
AStorm: agd5f, ahh, misunderstanding then
AStorm: kevin06, yes
AStorm: and actually, it's recommended - there are EXA fixes and speedups in 1.6
agd5f: AStorm: no worries
kevin06: thanks AStorm
kevin06: thanks AStorm
davidjheinrich: hi all
davidjheinrich: anyone have any ideas about a ghosting problem where windows dragged across he desktop show ghost trails, but not if dragged across other (maximized) windows
davidjheinrich: also, widgets (like the Desktop and the notes plasmoid) don't ghost across he desktop
