udovdh: hello
artifex: hello
artifex: does anyone happen to know when we'll probably getting full support for the HD3870 in Linux?
Tigerchen: artifex: what do you mean with "full support" ?
oninoshiko: define what you mean by "full support". the radeonhd driver does not provide 3D support for any card
artifex: aaa I'm sorry
artifex: I thought this was the channel to discuss the AMD proprietary drivers, but I've rushed headlong into this channel before properly checking your homepage :/
Tigerchen: artifex: try #ati
oninoshiko: i only wish i could use the amd propritatry drivers
artifex: oninoshiko: Why's that?
oninoshiko: "the radeonhd driver does not provide 3D support for any card"
artifex: I'm currently having the cripes with the propietary drivers that they don't support the HD3xxx series
oninoshiko: its suppose to change soon, but im not impatient
oninoshiko: err... s/not//
artifex: oninoshiko: what's keeping you from using the propietary drivers then?
oninoshiko: is on opensolaris, not linux
SunTzuTech: oninoshiko: are you building the updates or just using the 1.0.0 or 1.1.0 in Open Solaris?
artifex: ah gotcha
oninoshiko: im using the version built by alanc (i believe). over at SMI
oninoshiko: are there some major advances in the source's featureset?
oninoshiko: (i would not be adverse to trying it if there is)
SunTzuTech: just updated pci-id's. my x1550 isn't recognized with the 1.1.0 code in b84
oninoshiko: ahh... that really doesn't affect me, the chip in my T60p is detected quite nicely
SunTzuTech: well, not just updated pci-ids, there's a pile of patches from 1.1.0 to current, was hoping someone could help with it...
oninoshiko: your looking at the wrong person, i avoid code like the plague
SunTzuTech: np
oninoshiko: i though i wanted to be a programmer out of high-school, then realised "wait a min... i dont like doing this"
oninoshiko: thought*
SunTzuTech: heh. logged out, logged back in, now it's configuring....
oninoshiko: YAY!
SunTzuTech: but still not right... it doesn't find XORG_MANPAGE_SECTIONS and XORG_RELEASE_VERSION so it fails on the make....
oninoshiko: :(
oninoshiko: SunTzuTech: you might talk to alanc, he's really "the man" WRT radeonhd on OS (from what i know)
SunTzuTech: oninoshiko: got it compiled, but there a bug in the pci enumeration so it's hanging my system... I had to get xorg_macro_utils
spunkloaf: how can I get "extra" graphics in Ubuntu running my Radeon x1200 express?
spunkloaf: Does anybody know if an open source driver is available to fully support an integrated ATI Radeon x1200?
Tigerchen: easter... no development?
dmb: Tigerchen, guess not :D
Tigerchen: thought so
dmb: Tigerchen, you see how radeon driver got 3d support for r5xx :D?
Tigerchen: nope
Tigerchen: am too stupid to get radeon working in a acceptable way
dmb: yup, don't even try it anyway
dmb: doesn't work with our card yet
dmb: hard crashes
SunTzuTech: i'm still getting an unrecognized card...
dmb: SunTzuTech, for radeonhd?
SunTzuTech: yeah. I just compiled latest git on opensolaris. still get the same error as the 1.1.0 code
Tigerchen: dmb well, have it displaying here
Tigerchen: but its slooooooooooooooooooow
SunTzuTech: Tigerchen: that sounds like vesa mode
dmb: Tigerchen, radeon driver?
Tigerchen: dmb yes
dmb: ah
dmb: just use radeonhd, it works the best so far :D
Tigerchen: SunTzuTech: might be, dunno, no xv, no 3d, just xaa and slower than radeonhd
bosele: dmb: is that comment on r500 3d serious, or did i arrive to late to get the joke?
SunTzuTech: bosele: there was a posting on phoronics about it
bosele: thanks lemme go check
michaellarabel: http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=12073 :)
dmb: has it been merged it?
mattst88: dmb, no, it's still in development
mattst88: Tigerchen, just guessing here, you've got an r500?
mattst88: if so, the radeon driver should provide EXA acceleration along with textured video
Tigerchen: well, i might try
Tigerchen: hmm, exa is faster
Tigerchen: but still no xv-adaptors
dmb: mattst88, yes, it seems to hard crash when i run glxgears :D:D
mattst88: Tigerchen, my understanding is that textured video is superior to xv
mattst88: but it may require OpenGL
mattst88: I'm not sure.
Tigerchen: yeah, ok, i get lockups the moment something transparent is drawn
Tigerchen: the last message in the log was something about a NULL return from mesa, so might be it wants mesa from git, too
Tigerchen: or I'm simply too stupid
dmb: Tigerchen, radeon driver?
Tigerchen: dmb: yes
dmb: ah
