Nightwulf|work: hi all
bridgman: mattst88; 2d with 3d works as of release 1.2.2
Ckittin: need help to configure my radeonhd with xorg.conf
Ckittin: and can i use compiz?
Ckittin: no one here??? lolll
ndim: Ckittin: Most things I hear about compiz is "it does not work"
Ckittin: ok thx..;)
bridgman: Ckittin; should work fine with Compiz if you have current drivers (radeonhd, drm, mesa) and if your GPU is one where we have 3d support (rs690 or 5xx and below right now)
Ckittin: i do bridgman: most distros don't have sufficiently new driver versions though...
bridgman: hd2400 is a 6xx, so "no compiz for you" yet
bridgman: sorry
Ckittin: i just install the radeonhd driver...it work...but it;s slow...
Ckittin: okok thx a lot..;)
Ckittin: i tried the (option RDI)...noooot working..hehe
bridgman: yeah, that just tells the radeonhd driver to go and start up the 3d stack; doesn't mean the 3d stack will actually *work* or anything ;)
Ckittin: i know...loll
bridgman: just curious; I find shadowfb pretty fast for most things; what kind of things are slow for you ?
Ckittin: at least it work fine for 2d
bridgman: ah yes, everything else would be slow ;)
udovdh: Ckittin, slow?
udovdh: what stuff do you do?
udovdh: for normal desktop stuff there is no problem with a hd2600pro card
rindolf: Hi all.
phire: hello
phire: I'm buying a video card, and I'm wondering about the Radeon HD4850
phire: and drivers
yangman: phire: no acceleration, 2D or 3D, and no TV-out. otherwise works fine
yangman: it's the same case for both radeonhd and radeon. I'm not familiar with the state of fglrx
phire: and what about future prospects?
yangman: being worked on
yangman: AMD's pretty committed as is
phire: has amd released the documentation for it yet>
yangman: no. it's... complicated
phire: :-(
yangman: the current projection is code release first
yangman: either way, there'll be working drivers
phire: hmm
phire: thanks
phire: the question is, can I stand crappy binary drivers for long enough to wait for the open source ones
