MegaMan: anyone know how to get 4 monitors working on an ati Radeon X1650 XT rev 9a in ubuntu 9.10?
unimatrix: would anyone here happen to know why i can get 3D working on the radeon driver, but not on radeonhd; my card is an r700
MostAwesomeDude: No idea; it's supposed to work, but I don't think anybody's really testing it.
unimatrix: i am :)
yangman: unimatrix: what's not working about it?
unimatrix: hold on i'll reboot to it so i can paste actual error messages
unimatrix: ok well, compiz actually runs (i've noticed some animation), but the screen is garbled up beyond recognition
unimatrix: here's the Xorg log: http://pastebin.com/da8d7be4
yangman: is it just compiz or 3D in general?
unimatrix: i could turn it off but that would defeat the purpose... but let's try it nonetheless
unimatrix: yangman: it's all 3D
unimatrix: see this for example: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/121855/Screenshot-Brutal%20Chess%200.5.2.png
yangman: ok
unimatrix: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/121855/Screenshot-Brutal%20Chess%200.5.2-1.png
yangman: EXA's probably leaving texture setup in a state Mesa doesn't want it to be in
unimatrix: those chess textures seem to resemble nexuiz, which i've started before rebooting my computer
unimatrix: so, anything i can do about this?
yangman: patches welcome?
yangman: afaik no one's really keeping track of how well 3D stuff is working against rhd
unimatrix: so radeon is preferred?
yangman: it's certainly getting more testing in this area
unimatrix: so why are there two of them anyway
unimatrix: (i need to stop saying "so")
MostAwesomeDude: Long, stupid story.
yangman: yeah, long stupid story
unimatrix: thought so :P
Kaapa: hey there. Can't get my M76 to hibernate properly
Kaapa: just freezes on restore, any tips?
yangman: driver version?
Kaapa: what's the best way to check?
Kaapa: the one that comes with 2.6.29.6
yangman: grep 'RADEONHD: version' /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Kaapa: 1.2.5
Kaapa: commit cb54f48b if that helps
yangman: hm
yangman: there was a known issue with resuming, but was fixed for 1.2.5
yangman: try the latest version
yangman: and if that doesn't work, see if radeon works better for you
oliver3: Any idea when r7xx will have 3D support?
oliver3: oh oh oh oh oh experimental support
oliver3: yaaaaaay
oliver3: :D
Kaapa: yangman: thanks. I will.
oliver3: Oh still loads of problems with it
oliver3: I'll keep away for now
oliver3: :(
Kaapa: yangman: wow, radeon works with suspend, let me try hibernarte
Kaapa: crash with hibernate :S
MostAwesomeDude: If hibernate doesn't work, it's almost always not our bug.
MostAwesomeDude: Suspend is the tricky one since the card needs to get warm-booted. Hibernate involves cold-boot which is a lot easier.
Kaapa: fglrx works with both; radeonhd doesn't work with any; radeon works with suspend
MostAwesomeDude: Hm.
MostAwesomeDude: Wait, is fglrx still installed?
Kaapa: I need to reboot if I use fglrx
Kaapa: it's still in the system, but it's not used
MostAwesomeDude: Well, if fglrx is installed, it messes with open drivers.
Kaapa: I'll reinstall mesa before trying again
Kaapa: It's the only thing fglrx overwrites iirc
MostAwesomeDude: Make sure fglrx's kernel module is blacklisted or nuked too.
Kaapa: ok
Kaapa: is it normal that glxgears doesnt work?glxgears
shadowmaster: um, hibernate is what works here with radeonhd, not suspend (to RAM).
MostAwesomeDude: M76? Yeah, you need to install Mesa from git if you want the experimental 3D support.
yangman: shadowmaster: it can be different. driver development wouldn't be such a nightmware it it wasn't :\
Kaapa: Ill try again, after installing mesa
Kaapa: for me hibernate/suspend >> 3d
Kaapa: fglrx wokrs quite well , expect 2d slowdown with composite
Kaapa: (and bugs me not being xrandr compatible)
oliver3: sooo tempted to try out the experimental 3D support
oliver3: I'll give it a go tomorrow :D
