Nightwulf|work: hi all
ElAngelo: libv: how long before we get some 3d for r600 and r700 ?
MostAwesomeDude: ElAngelo: When it's ready and AMD releases docs. :3
ElAngelo: glad you quit
egbert_: yangman: i assume you have to disable the crtc and make sure all engines are idle, right?
egbert_: to wait for the engines to be idle you should call rhdEngineIdle()
egbert_: to idle the crtc you should call rhdAllIdle(RHDPtr rhdPtr)
egbert_: but there is no single call to turn the crtc back on after you are done.
egbert_: yangman: you'd have to write this yourself.
egbert_: yangman: PrepareMode() doesn't turn off the crtc. they are still reading from the memory.
egbert_: so that could be dangerous when you modify the mem clocks.
egbert_: PepareMode() blanks the screen and truns off the outputs for you so you don't see flickering.
egbert_: yangman: you'll just get a blackened screen.
egbert_: you may want to call this one, too. but then you need to make sure to reenable the outputs afterwards.
yangman: egbert_: hm.. ok. I had it using RHDAllIdle() to bring everything down then xf86SetDesiredModes() to reenable again, but RHDAllIdle() got moved to being in rhd_driver.c only
matteo: any news about the R700 specs?
yangman: matteo: no
udovdh: I just rebooted
udovdh: and saw a weird issue with the HDA intel audio on my 2600 card
udovdh: I dont suffer from the issue
udovdh: because I don't use the audio
udovdh: but when I tried to enable the audio with settings in xorg.conf
udovdh: the picture had wobbly window edges and/or the monitor did not sync
udovdh: I used:
udovdh: # Option "Audio" "on"
udovdh: # Option "HDMI" "all"
udovdh: as that was what I found in a search
udovdh: is this a known issue?
udovdh: removing the lines resolved the sync and wobbly edge issue
udovdh: I am runnign git
libv: udovdh: yeah, not all monitors are able to sync to it
udovdh: but... the monitor explains what it can take
udovdh: so why does the card offer something (slightly) different?
udovdh: or is the audio stream disrupting the video sync?
udovdh: so it is more of a monitor issue than a card/driver issue?
libv: we have the 1600EUR dell 30" here that absolutely refuses to sync to any mode with hdmi audio on, at least when we fed it through the radeonhd driver
libv: it was happy when no audio was sent to the graphics card
libv: but didn't sync as soon as you fed audio in
libv: this was true for our driver and fglrx
libv: it had no issues with the hdmi from a ps3 though
libv: no idea why yet
udovdh: ah ps3 hdmi is w/ audio?
udovdh: so might me driver related
udovdh: ok, no worries, I am not waiting for it to work
udovdh: just was wondering
udovdh: if I can help debug just let me know
libv: i have no idea yet what's going on sadly :(
udovdh: I have a philips lcd 1680*1050 with no hdmi audio of course
udovdh: time to grab the scope
udovdh: and have a look?
libv: ps3 was using hdmi natively, with audio
libv: udovdh: we kind of know what is going, audio is being sent in where blanking should be
libv: but why the dell accepts audio from one source, but not from another, i don't know yet
libv: i can see how normal monitors get confused by there being data where black should be
udovdh: picky timing?
egbert_: yangman: sorry, if you need AllIdle() feel free to make it non-static again.
Ferocanis: is 240 FPS in glxgears decent for an RS690?
matteo: Ferocanis: i get 600 with an Intel 915
Ferocanis: i'm looking for something radeonhd-specific though
Ferocanis: just to know if other people using radeonhd have somehow gotten better results with this chip
adamk: glxgears results are a useless benchmark :-)
adamk: Or, more accurately, useless as a benchmark.
Ferocanis: any other suggestions?
adamk: Or even a point of comparison, frankly. Nearly anything can impact the results.
adamk: Any number of decent open source games have a FPS meters... openareana, for example.
adamk: Hmmm... I thought that page listed other applications to use.
Ferocanis: i usually use openarena, i just don't have it installed yet :)
adamk: Hmmm.. It does list one application.
Ferocanis: adamk: i'm not entirely sure how gtkperf could help
Ferocanis: but maybe that other program
Ferocanis: also, is there a way to set the amount of shared video memory from linux?
Ferocanis: because it's not in my worthless bios >:(
yangman: r5xx_pm branch rebased
Guardian`: hey there
Guardian`: I read the wiki and I'd like to install radeonhd for my HD4850 on gentoo
Guardian`: but I don't find any adress to dl it :>
ndim: Guardian`: There is a gentoo ebuild which builds radeonhd from git.
ndim: Guardian`: That's probably what you want.
ndim: Guardian`: But don't ask me about Gentoo specifics.
Guardian`: rofl, I told gentoo
Guardian`: it's debian
ndim: I wanted to install Gentoo to fix some special aspect of the build process... but I couldn't be bothered to take the time.
ndim: Guardian`: Uhm... then I'd use the 1.2.3 package from experimental
Guardian`: ok, thx
ndim: I personally am using Fedora with the official Fedora packages (which I maintain). [Just so you don't think I am running Debian :-]
ndim: Hmm... regarding power management... this laptop is using about 14 Watts with stock git radeonhd and no special power management stuff... but only when I "kill -STOP" firefox first. With firefox running and just with a few stupid pages open it makes the box eat 20+ Watts.
ndim: I guess I should patch the window manager to send SIGSTOP to firefox when it goes out of focus and SIGCONT when it goes into focus :)
Tronic: Switched back to Nvidia 8800GTS 640 MB and won't be using ATI hardware again any time soon.
Tronic: See you in a few years, when I decide to test again, I guess :P
Tronic: HD3650 was a failure with all drivers.
yangman: ndim: laptop BIOS seems to be doing a pretty good job initializing mobility X1xxx GPUs into a good power management state. it's actually a little frustrating because I can't actually measure any benefit from my pm code :p
ndim: yangman: Makes sense. People might run DOS... :)
Guardian`: ndim, I got the 1.2.3 but when I try to install it, it asks xserver-xorg-core, that I allready have
Guardian`: nobody ? :|
Guardian`: Could someone help me to install 1.2.3 on Debian plz ?
