Nightwulf|work: hi all
mix_room: I am having problems with the radeonhd driver in combination with a Sharp LC-46XL2E and a DFI LANPARTY JR 790GX-M2RS outputting via HDMI. Using another TV the picture is good, sound is working. When I change TVs, to the 46XL, this is no longer the case. There is no audio output and the picture color is not correct. I am running radeonhd 1.3.0 on FreeBSD 8.0 amd64. I would appreciate hints as where to start my search for faults. I was not able to find anythi
adamk: mix_room: The development on radeonhd has slowed drastically and, with it, the amount of support.
adamk: mix_room: All I could really suggest is trying the latest code in git and seeing if that works any better.
adamk: radeon might give the correct colors, but you won't get HDMI audio, as I might have mentioned on the freebsd forums.
udovdh: it has slowed so much that on tweakers.net people complain about the lack of accelleration (!)
udovdh: where I have 1d/2d/3d working
mix_room: adamk: will try the newest git code. Is there any point in trying radeon? Will I be able to move the lessons learned from radeon to radeonhd to allow me to include the tv as desired? HDMI-audio is important as I was aiming to use the computer as a mediacenter.
mix_room: What do you guys think of the 'IgnoreEDID' option? Might that help, or probably not?
adamk: mix_room: HDMI audio won't work with radeon for you.
mix_room: adamk: I am aware of that, the point was trying to discover the necessary information, then port it to be used with radeonhd.
mix_room: I was assuming that there was some information that might be provided by radeon which is not being foudn by radeonhd.
adamk: Not sure I follow. You don't even know at this point if the video works properly with 'radeon' right?
mix_room: no I dont.
mix_room: perhaps 'hoping' would have been a better choice of word than 'assuming'
adamk: mix_room: Generally speaking, radeon and radeonhd have the same features and perhaps even share much of the same code base.
adamk: While there is the chance that 'radeon' might handle the video better, I wouldn't count on it.
mix_room: what are my chances of manually setting the necessary parameters?
mix_room: disable autodetection and then input the required information by hand.
adamk: I'm honestly not sure. I haven't tried that in years, and never with radeonhd.
mix_room: The way Xorg.conf used to be used.
mix_room: I'll give it a try.
mix_room: I have nothing to lose at the moment, as I'm stuck with an unusable installation.
adamk: Quite true.
