MostAwesomeDude: Hm.
MostAwesomeDude: That's, um, bizarre. I get sort of a checkerboard pattern.
rbrett: MostAwesomeDude: You taught radeon to play checkers? :P
MostAwesomeDude: rbrett: I'll get a screenshot in a few. Textured Xv is doing a weird checkered thingy.
john_help_radeon: Hey guys
john_help_radeon: Ubuntu Hardy, having issues, need some help
john_help_radeon: Heeeeelllloooo?
MostAwesomeDude: Hi.
john_help_radeon: Hey, im having some trouble with ubunty Hardy Heron and my Radeon x1650
MostAwesomeDude: Instead of saying "need help," just go ahead and state your question/problem.
john_help_radeon: Well, I have the drivers installed
john_help_radeon: however, fglrxinfo still displays the Mesa drivers
john_help_radeon: I get a white screen after logon UNLESS I use Failsafe gnome
MostAwesomeDude: If you want fglrx, use #ati. This channel is for the open-source radeon drivers.
john_help_radeon: Erm...
john_help_radeon: I was using the drivers off of ATI's website
john_help_radeon: Those are the closed source ones
MostAwesomeDude: That's fglrx.
john_help_radeon: right?
MostAwesomeDude: Right.
john_help_radeon: Right, so thats my issue
john_help_radeon: I installed them
john_help_radeon: However, I get a white screen after logon
john_help_radeon: Unless I use Failsafe Gnome
MostAwesomeDude: Oh, okay.
john_help_radeon: If I type the command "fglrxinfo"
rx__: ....
MostAwesomeDude: Well, there's no fglrx help in this channel. Please try #ati.
john_help_radeon: Then I am told I am still using Mesa
john_help_radeon: alright
rx__: :/
MostAwesomeDude: How do people fail to read the topic?
rx__: tells himself that not everyone knows as much as he does
terracon: well you handled it well
MostAwesomeDude: Hm. Some xscreensavers are fast, some are slow.
cxo: goes to bed dreaming of actually using an ati card to play games one day
mikkoc: guys, im trying to play Civ3 with wine, but it doesn't see I have 3d
mikkoc: unknown chip id 0x7145, can't guess.
mikkoc: libGL warning: 3D driver returned no fbconfigs.
mikkoc: libGL error: InitDriver failed
mikkoc: libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering
mikkoc: i can play 3d games just fine tho
mikkoc: using git
dan_p: hi, i'm having some problems with xrandr - basically it wont let me extend to dual screens, and instead seems tuck in clone mode. I have disabled DRI to see if that helps, but same problem
MrCooper: dan_p: xrandr isn't smart enough to automatically choose different CRTCs for the outputs, you have to tell it explicitly
dan_p: MrCooper: thanks, i'll give that a try
otaylor: dan_p: You may also need an explicit Virtual in your xorg.conf
otaylor: dan_p: you have to have a frame buffer allocated large enough for the two windows side by side
spudhole: Guys, I could do with a pointer on how to set up Zaphod style dual-head on xf86-video-ati..
spudhole: All I can seem to get is clone mode at the moment.
spudhole: I can use xrandr to position one screen at an offset to the other.
spudhole: But that's not what I'm after - I'm looking for them to be mostly independant.
spudhole: (seeing as they're different resolutions, treating them as rectangular wouldn't make that much sense.
otaylor: spudhole: a) I think zaphod-mode is broken at the moment b) are you really sure you want that?
otaylor: spudhole: If you are in Zaphod-mode, you can't move windows between the screens, for one thing
otaylor: spudhole: Rectangular-with-a-hole is probably what you want ... decent window managers are smart about not putting stuff into the hole
spudhole: Well, I'll give it a shot.
spudhole: I did read that zaphod was removed at about the 6.7.0 timeframe but was re-implemented on top of the xrandr internals since.
otaylor: (not being able to move things between screens also works badly if one screen is a laptop and the other is an external monitor and you undock...)
spudhole: Thanks for the help, otaylor..
MostAwesomeDude: mikkoc: Your error -> Wine is linking with the wrong libGL.
mikkoc: MostAwesomeDude: do you know the solution?
MostAwesomeDude: mikkoc: You're on amd64, using multilib, and using compatibility libs for 32-bit, right?
mikkoc: yes
MostAwesomeDude: So, Gentoo?
MostAwesomeDude: The media-libs package for Gentoo amd64 has Mesa 6.5.x, way too old.
MostAwesomeDude: And building your own is a pain.
mikkoc: hm
MostAwesomeDude: So if you *are* running Gentoo, give me a second to upload my Mesa 7.1 tarball I built just for this. :3
mikkoc: i am
MostAwesomeDude: Okay. One sec.
mikkoc: thanks man
MostAwesomeDude: No problem. Building 32-bit compat libs is, well, a fuckin' pain in the ass, to be honest.
mikkoc: wine doesn't work with amd64?
MostAwesomeDude: Well, Wine is a Win32 layer.
MostAwesomeDude: And Wine natively dynamically links with 32-bit libraries, not 64-bit.
MostAwesomeDude: Check with "ldd `which wine`", and look at where it links. :3
MostAwesomeDude: mikkoc: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=37OCMAY0
mikkoc: thanks
MostAwesomeDude: No problem. Just extract it over your root.
MostAwesomeDude: "emerge -1av app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-xlibs" to go back to the old version.
MostAwesomeDude: Also you may have to "make install" in your mesa git tree after doing this, I can't remember if I put /usr/include in that ball.
mikkoc: MostAwesomeDude: so i just "cp -R usr /" ?
MostAwesomeDude: Yeah. If you're worried, only copy /usr/lib32.
MostAwesomeDude: It's only libGL and friends.
mikkoc: that's it?
MostAwesomeDude: Yeah.
mikkoc: i need to rebuild mesa you say?
MostAwesomeDude: Mm, just "make install" again, and only if it breaks.
MostAwesomeDude: It shouldn't, though.
mikkoc: i can't just make install :)
MostAwesomeDude: mikkoc: Oh, you're on the ebuild.
mikkoc: yea
MostAwesomeDude: Well, just don't worry about it, then.
mikkoc: ok, i'll try
mikkoc: MostAwesomeDude: i don't get the error anymore, but still X crashes when loading the game, backtrace: http://zlin.dk/p/?NDk2NWQ5
mikkoc: is this wine's fault? because it should *work*
MostAwesomeDude: That looks a lot like either X or Wine is doing something bad.
MostAwesomeDude: Is that a reproducible crash? Which game?
mikkoc: civ3
mikkoc: as i start a new game
MostAwesomeDude: Hmm.
MostAwesomeDude: Could you find another OGL game to test with?
mikkoc: yea
mikkoc: MostAwesomeDude: i tried a car game.. it doesn't crash.. but it's not playable either: error anymore, but still X crashes when loading the game, backtrace: http://zlin.dk/p/?NDk2NWQ5
mikkoc: fffff
mikkoc: http://i33.tinypic.com/15xwdjs.png
MostAwesomeDude: wtf.
MostAwesomeDude: Um, you could try building the package yourself.
mikkoc: i keep getting this too
mikkoc: Mesa warning: couldn't open libtxc_dxtn.so, software DXTn compression/decompression unavailable
MostAwesomeDude: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/base/amd64/emul/index.xml
mikkoc: MostAwesomeDude: which package?
mikkoc: ah
MostAwesomeDude: Oh, that warning's expected.
mikkoc: nothing to worry?
MostAwesomeDude: That page talks about how to make the packages. That's how I made the Mesa tarball.
MostAwesomeDude: Yeah, no worries.
mikkoc: is it easy?
MostAwesomeDude: Well, read the page.
MostAwesomeDude: It takes time, but it's pretty simple.
mikkoc: i'll see
mikkoc: thx
MostAwesomeDude: Sure.
dan_p1: Hi again - thanks for the crtc tip, specfying that fixed my setup. Is there a way to specify this in xorg.conf?
z3ro: sweet, just found out my phone won't work overseas. =/
cxo: sweet
z3ro: I suppose it's my fault for organising everything on the day I'm flying out. :P
TobiasTheCommie: z3ro: how can your phone not work overseas?
TobiasTheCommie: isn't all phones triband by now
TobiasTheCommie: aren't
z3ro: TobiasTheCommie: primitive NZ phones. :P
z3ro: and I brought this one about a year ago iirc.
TobiasTheCommie: wait, a one year old phone, and it doesn't do triband..
TobiasTheCommie: wtf
airlied: TobiasTheCommie: unless hes in the US I doubt triband matters.
TobiasTheCommie: honestly, or about 10 years all phones in denmark have been without the antenna, and triband
TobiasTheCommie: for
TobiasTheCommie: airlied: all my tribands have worked everywhere..
airlied: z3ro: you enabled roaming I assume before leaving?
airlied: TobiasTheCommie: the point is you only need the 3rd band in the US normally.
airlied: and I don't think z3ro is in the US.
TobiasTheCommie: airlied: no, he said NZ
z3ro: airlied: I was going to do it today, but I might go and see them in person.
airlied: TobiasTheCommie: he's from NZ..
airlied: unless NZ is still on CDMA.
z3ro: yeah, I think telecom is still using cdma. I think vodafone uses GSM.
cxo: discovered colourised PS[124]
cxo: check it
cxo: export PS1='\[\e[2;34m\][\[\e[m\]\[\e[1;30m\]\t\[\e[m\] \[\e[0;34m\]\w\[\e[m\]\[\e[2;34m\]]\[\e[m\n\[\e[1;31m\]\$\[\e[m\] '
TobiasTheCommie: PS[124]?
cxo: colours
TobiasTheCommie: i have enough colours
cxo: you can never have enough colours
TobiasTheCommie: yes, yes you can
TobiasTheCommie: i am perfectly fine with just 5-6 colours
cxo: nah you gotta be 64bit like the Atari
cxo: try my PS1, and see if you like it
TobiasTheCommie: nah
TobiasTheCommie: thanks though :)
danboid: Hi!
danboid: Any news on 3D accel for R600?
