Magnade: FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE
Magnade: if its that its built in
Magnade: no choice in the matter looking at menuconfig
Magnade: just for ref 2.6.34 was working fine this .35-rc3 config is based off that working config
Nightwulf|work: hi all
Galvatron: Hi
Galvatron: I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome and Compiz on Radeon 9200SE. The problem is that the system freezes very often and is almost unusable. After Alt + Ctrl + F1 I get the following errors (occuring infinitely): [drm: radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Failed to schedule IB [drm: eadeon_ib schedule] *ERROR* radeon: couldn't schedule IB.
Galvatron: I'm using xorg-edgers
Galvatron: I tried disabling KMS, but It makes Compiz unusable (black desktop and slow) as well as several kernels (2.32, 2.34 and 2.35). I also added nonhz and irqpoll options to boot - nothing helped.
airlied: Galvatron: try radeon.agpmode=-1
Galvatron: "-1"?
Galvatron: Add it to grub in the same line where I usually add redeno.modeset=0/1 and so on?
airlied: yes
airlied: if -1 works, you can try 1,2,4,8 to see if any are more stable
Galvatron: So try every one from -1 to 8 and check if it helps?
Galvatron: OK
Galvatron: I'll report back when I'm done (most likely in a few days).
Galvatron: Thanks
noppe: what's the development status of evergreen support?
Ke: quite a few bits exist, but no mesa
chithead: noppe: http://wiki.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature
Ke: KMS 2.6.35-rc3 6.13 ddx don't work for me at all
noppe: so if i had to choose between a 4350/4550 and 5450 it wouldnt be a mistake to pick the 5450 now, would it?
MostAwesomeDude: "Mistake" is such a strong word. :3
MostAwesomeDude: Think of it as "works decently now" or "works just fine at the moment."
MostAwesomeDude: After all, there are two things to consider. (1) We are constantly improving code for all GPUs; (2) The best-supported and best-understood GPUs still have bugs sometimes.
MostAwesomeDude: Or, to put it another way, all hardware sucks, all drivers suck. Hurp.
GNU\colossus: hehe
noppe: ok, that sounds good enough.
GNU\colossus: which combination sucks least in your opinion? ;
GNU\colossus: and, maybe even more important: which hardware sucks least?
chithead: the 5450 can drive 3 monitors
Ke: !
GNU\colossus: that's nice, but I won't be getting two additional 26" displays any time soon :)
chithead: hardware wise, the 5450 might be better suited for gpu compute
chithead: the open source drivers for 5000 series don't support acceleration yet. though that is going to change soon if I understand correctly
MostAwesomeDude: Honestly, I'm gettin' more power from my X1950 (r500) than any of my r600/r700/r800 cards so far.
Jonimus: MostAwesomeDude: well thats most likely because r300-500 support is much better than r600/700/evergreen
MostAwesomeDude: Jonimus: Yup.
MostAwesomeDude: So I'm kinda biased.
Jonimus: MostAwesomeDude: don't you mostly work on r300-500 anyway, so it makes more sense for you to lke them more :P
MostAwesomeDude: Jonimus: I work on them because (1) They were all I had when I started on r300g last year (2) I know r500 really well (3) Jerome asked me nicely to hold off on r600g until he nails the interface and quality down a bit more
Jonimus: ahh ok
noppe: MostAwesomeDude: if you're getting more power from your x1950 atm, would it then be wise for me (currently using a x1250) to wait a little longer before upgrading?
MostAwesomeDude: noppe: I'm kinda biased.
