MostAwesomeDude: And I'm officially back, both from system reinstall and from Seattle.
MostAwesomeDude: *crickets*
airlied: kicks the the tumbleweed rolling by..
MostAwesomeDude: airlied: Do you guys have tumbleweed down there?
airlied: no idea :)
MostAwesomeDude: Anything fun, exciting happen while I was gone?
MostAwesomeDude: I'm installing Firefox and Thunderbird right now; I haven't heard any news...
airlied: MostAwesomeDude: no idea, I've been staring at memory manager pictures and feeling ill :)
MrCooper_: MostAwesomeDude: new season of Top Gear started yesterday, how about that ;)
airlied: its like those drawing that if you stare at it long enough nothing comes out of it.
airlied: well no more leaks in my bufmgr at least
airlied: now to try and make it useful/
airlied: oh any maybe deal with VRAM..
MrCooper: airlied: right now it's allocating from the GART area beyond ring buffer and indirect buffers?
airlied: MrCooper: yup I'm just using that 5MB region and have replaced the r300_mem.c with a bufmgr.
MrCooper: cool
airlied: only got texture upload and vertex buffers in there so fare
MrCooper: why texture upload?
airlied: MrCooper: it already went through the dma path
airlied: MrCooper: so it came along for the ride..
MrCooper: dma path?
airlied: the r300AllocDmaRegion stuff
MrCooper: is texImage->IsClientData ever true though? :)
airlied: nope :)
MrCooper: I think that's just for some weird extension nobody uses
airlied: so we always hit the 64kb at a time upload via blit paths.
airlied: APPLE_client_texture or some of those
airlied: MrCooper: I think TG use it :)
airlied: or one of your customers :
airlied: thats why the r200 has it .
MrCooper: maybe one of our customers does/did :)
airlied: MrCooper: btw any idea what the Elts upload path is?
airlied: or what might trigger it.
MrCooper: not sure, ask nha or Aapo Tahkola maybe; I thought it was used pretty much always though
MrCooper: AFAICT client texture storage is only used even with the r200 driver if the environment variable R200_GART_CLIENT_TEXTURES is set, probably never with r300
MrCooper: I suspect that code is just debris from r300 being based on r200 originally
MostAwesomeDude: ...Okay, I'm just about ready to put the screwdriver through the Gentoo CD.
airlied: yeah sounds like .
airlied: sounds like it even.
MostAwesomeDude: Turns out I forgot one tiny-eensy-weensy step when building GCC, and now I'm unable to build GTK or HAL.
MostAwesomeDude: BRB, gonna go smash my head against the wall and then rebuild my system.
|moe|: good morning
adamk: ytsestef, blur won't work. As I understand it, that requires a specific accelerated function that can't happen without a memory manager.
ytsestef: adamk, works using fglrx, that's why it drew my attention
adamk: Well this isn't fglrx :-)
ytsestef: yup
ytsestef: about the gl screensavers?
adamk: I have no idea why they wouldn't work... They certainly should.
adamk: Oh wait... Are you trying to use them at the same time as compiz?
ytsestef: yup
ytsestef: :$
adamk: Oh, well that's definitely not gonna work.
ytsestef: hmph, pity
adamk: The DRI does not support redirection of direct rendered windows. DRI2 does.
ytsestef: proprietary drivers and way better in such aspects, but their total lack in overlay video still makes the free ones better
adamk: So you'll have to wait for the open source driver to get updated to use DRI2, which also requires a memory manager.
adamk: ytsestef, Well the proprietary driver doesn't support redirection of direct rendered windows, either.
ytsestef: adamk, i was talking about the blur thing, and the slight difference in speed
adamk: I've never found blur particularly useful, so it's never bothered me.
ytsestef: just a bit of eyecandy
ytsestef: really
ytsestef: of course the excellent xv support and video quality overcomes the lack of the window blur :P
adamk: The real deal breaker for me is that fglrx doesn't work on FreeBSD :-)
ytsestef: oh...
ytsestef: closed architecture software is sooo much more likely to be incompatible with stuff
MrCooper: adamk: GL screensavers may work with compiz if you enable the 'unredirect fullscreen windows' option in compiz
adamk: MrCooper, That's never worked for me.
adamk: MrCooper, As onestone once told me, you can't unredirect something that isn't redirected in the first place :-)
MrCooper: huh?
adamk: If I have any window below the fullscreen window, and it's updating regularly, it pushes through the fullscreen opengl window.
MrCooper: if it wasn't redirected in the first place, there wouldn't be a problem :)
MrCooper: that means it's redirected
adamk: I'm just repeating what I was told :-)
MrCooper: compiz just needs to become clever enough to unredirect it
adamk: But perhaps something has changed recently in compiz and it now works.
MrCooper: you're right that compiz tends not to recognize windows that are effectively fullscreen, that's why I said 'may'
ni1s: I can't get Stellarium to work with my rv535 card, are the 3D bits not complete?
kdekorte_: nils, depends on where you got your driver from
jack_: hi all
jack_: i installed today the latest ati drivers using mobility modder the install was successful but i have only one problem now core clock is much lower than it suppose to be
jack_: and memory clock
karpi: hello.. im using xf86-video-ati 6.8.0-r1 on 2.6.24-gentoo-r8
karpi: and this strange green artefacts appeares: http://gismaster.liberix.cz/~karpi/noblogmedia/pics/sshots/gimp_green.jpg
jack_: is this only about linux drivers?
MrCooper: jack_: are there open source Windows drivers? ;)
adamk: Well, to be fair, the open source drivers do work on FreeBSD :-)
jack_: is there open source for windows??
ni1s: kdekorte_: xf86-video-ati-6.8.191 mesa-7.1-rc1 and drm modules from git, glxgears and gridwars work
kdekorte_: interesting, sounds pretty good... I was able to run SecondLife on my r500 machine.. maybe something Stellarium needs is missing
kdekorte_: might see if it spits out anything on the console
jack_: are you all on linux?
adamk: I use FreeBSD.
kdekorte_: There is no opensource driver for windows
adamk: Mostly, but not exclusively.
jack_: freebsd is for pros
karpi: ..also blender doesn't work:
karpi: http://gismaster.liberix.cz/~karpi/noblogmedia/pics/sshots/ssht1.png
karpi: http://gismaster.liberix.cz/~karpi/noblogmedia/pics/sshots/ssht2.png
karpi: ..is there someone with similar expirience, plz??
adamk: Well blender works fine here... And I've not seen any green artifacts.
kdekorte_: karpi, which video card?
karpi: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV100 QY [Radeon 7000/VE
kdekorte_: Any special options enabled in your xorg.conf file?
adamk: Are you running compiz at the time?
MrCooper: karpi: I think there's a bug report about something like that
karpi: im not runnig compiz or anything like that..
karpi: my xorg.conf there: http://nopaste.org/p/aAJqDFQiK
kdekorte_: karpi, if you set Option "NoAccel" "True" in your xorg.conf file do you still get the problems in gimp?
frojnd: hello
frojnd: I've currently installed the xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd but due to artifacts and flickering, I'd like to try radeon driver. Would anyone know the name of the packge for radeon driver ? I am on suse 11
adamk_: frojnd, Probably xorg-x11-driver-video-ati
frojnd: adamk_: I tryed, nothing
rzr: does suse support other distro's .deb packages ?
adamk_: Can you search for all xorg-x11-driver-video packages?
adamk_: rzr, No.
drac: funnily renamed..
adamk_: You should never take packages for one distribution and use them on another.
rzr: frojnd said "I am on suse 11"
BigBrain: rzr: you could try alien
BigBrain: rzr: however, as adamk_ said, this is _not_ supported and really can break things
adamk_: frojnd, Most likely suse 11 already ships with the open source ati/radeon driver. Whether or not it supports your card, however, is another matter.
rzr: BigBrain: IMHO, recompiling the package would gave better result than using alien
frojnd: adamk_: so If I delete my current xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd tehre will automatically be radeon driver instead
BigBrain: oh yeah, didn't read the whole story, just wanted to add that to your question :)
adamk_: frojnd, You may need to use sax2 to reconfigure X to use the radeon/ati driver.
frojnd: let me try but firs I'll backup xorg.conf
stefanb1: Hmm compiz 0.7.6 cube deformation is cool :-)
Tch23: Hi guys!
Tch23: Guess what? I got a problem with radeonHD drivers!
lupine_85: fascinating
lupine_85: #radeonhd ?
Tch23: there's a specific chanel?
lupine_85: no, I'm just redirecting you to an uninhabited one
lupine_85: try it
Tch23: You're a bad person
lupine_85: I know
Tch23: Well
mattst88: he was kidding, Tch23. #radeonhd is the appropriate place...
BigBrain: There are actually even more people in #radeonhd than in #radeon :D
Tch23: That's true
Tch23: you're not that bad
lupine_85: :D
Tch23: See you guys thanks!
frojnd: anyone here have r5xx chipset ?
adamk: frojnd, I do.
adamk: And I imagine various others :-)
mcgreg: yep
frojnd: adamk: and i have no artifacts or flickering watching videos ?
adamk: I don't know if you do or don't :-)
adamk: I, however, do not.
frojnd: adamk: I have on radeonhd :S
adamk: I've not used radeonhd.
adamk: Just radeon.
adamk: And now, I must take my cat to the vet.
adamk: bbl.
frojnd: adamk: tyt
mcgreg: I dont think I've had ever problem s with video with radeon driver
frojnd: mcgreg: what distro ?
mcgreg: debian
frojnd: mcgreg: and u've installed by package
frojnd: or did u build svn ?
frojnd: mcgreg: I'm on suse but I can't find any radeon package... by default suse 11 recognized my mobility x1400 and installed radeonhd but I'm not very pleased with it :S
mcgreg: hmm I have two versions of it .. the one using old xserver I from package I think
mcgreg: radeon is : xorg/driver/xf86-video-ati
mcgreg: xf86-video-ati
frojnd: mcgreg: no such package only *-video-radeonhd
mcgreg: you should ask in your distros channel about that package, there must be such a package
frojnd: they don't know or I don't know how to as
frojnd: k
mcgreg: ask them what the name is for ATI cards driver with core r300/r400
agd5f: frojnd: I think suse packages xf86-video-ati in a metapackage, and I'm not sure if they have recent snapshots available
agd5f: IIRC, they still ship 6.6.3 which is the pre-randr 1.2 version
frojnd: mcgreg: I have mobility x1400 isn't this r5xx chipset ?
mcgreg: it is
mcgreg: frojnd: but the radeon driver is the driver for r300/r400/r500/r600 ...
mcgreg: but as agd5f pointed out, the driver will be too old for r500/r600
frojnd: mcgreg: that's not good for me :(
frojnd: but u said many people have r5xx chipsets and video is good
agd5f: frojnd: I'm sure some one makes recent -ati packages for suse
frojnd: agd5f: I'm trying to digg something in suse
Tigerchen: hey, i just played openastromenace and i happened to see this in the log afterwards: *********************************WARN_ONCE*********************************
Tigerchen: File r300_mem.c function r300_mem_alloc line 225
Tigerchen: Ran out of GART memory (for 1048576)!
Tigerchen: Please consider adjusting GARTSize option.

rx__: hum.. mostawesomedude isn't around
rx__: hey airlied
rx__: should TRUE/FALSE be removed from XGI driver in mesa/drm too?
rx__: and by removed i mean.. s/TRUE/true/ s/FALSE/false/
airlied: rx__: yes probably.
rx__: should i file a bug?
airlied: nah someone will fix it I'm sure
rx__: alrighty
dmb: hum.. mostawesomedude isn't around --> I believe he said that he wasn't going to be around this week or something like that
rx__: ah
rx__: thanks
