spreeuw: are there any known issues with this weeks mesa/xserver/xf86-ati git combination preventing 3daccel?
spreeuw: oh also got libdrm and drm git
spreeuw: Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual
spreeuw: all the rest is locked and loaded without errors
ejs1920: is AIGLX enabled?
spreeuw: no
spreeuw: must it be?
ejs1920: i had to enable it
ejs1920: to get 3d working
spreeuw: oh.., thanks
spreeuw: yeah it works now thanks
spreeuw: ejs1920: do you notice any screen freezes when you shut down the xserver with ^alt backspace?
spreeuw: both head and 1.5 tree do it
spreeuw: so i think it's a problem in theati driver
ejs1920: i've not tried it
spreeuw: flipping to xonsole works ok
spreeuw: console
ejs1920: yes ctrl+atl+f1 works fine
spreeuw: killing x from within X locks up the image too
spreeuw: and eats kb/mouse
spreeuw: can only magic sysrq out
ejs1920: i'm actually using fedora 9's libdrm/mesa/xserver, so not quite the latest
ejs1920: oh, i haven't tried quitting x yet
ejs1920: Xorg.0.log.old has AIGLX off
spreeuw: http://tirdc.livejournal.com/
spreeuw: hmm still not gettingthese xperf results
spreeuw: still got the old 60 000 results
ejs1920: i can get about 150k for x11perf -aa10text
ejs1920: but i get lockups if i'm using exa with render accel
ejs1920: in 3d programs usually
spreeuw: oh
ejs1920: also try -aa24text
ejs1920: it used to be faster that -aa10text, but that's been fixed now and they're about the same
spreeuw: lol it's even slower
spreeuw: though less chars are shown
spreeuw: 18300.0/sec
spreeuw: 10 is 70300.0/sec
ejs1920: are you using exa? and is render accel enabled?
ejs1920: those numbers are like mine, and i'm on xaa
spreeuw: (**) RADEON(0): Using EXA acceleration architecture
spreeuw: (II) RADEON(0): Render acceleration enabled for R300/R400/R500 type cards.
ejs1920: are you using MigrationHeuristic greedy?
spreeuw: no I left everything autodetect
spreeuw: except renderaccel
spreeuw: and GARTSIZE
ejs1920: what card? i have a 9550
spreeuw: X700 pcie
spreeuw: thats like a 9700 agp
spreeuw: ejs1920: this tests normal xfonts right?
spreeuw: or do I have to use xft stuff?
ejs1920: aa10text tests antialiased xrender fonts i think
spreeuw: r3xx-render branch of xf86-video-ati segfaulted when shutting down the X-server in EXA mode, which caused a black screen]
spreeuw: ahh
spreeuw: so thats in line with my experiences
spreeuw: it got merged with ati head
ejs1920: also there have been some improvements since those benchmarks
ejs1920: i first got about 15k with exa render accel
spreeuw: what does it take to enable render accell
spreeuw: it's just that option right
ejs1920: it's on by default
spreeuw: Option "RenderAccel" "1"
spreeuw: ok
ejs1920: have you tried xrenderbenchmark ?
spreeuw: nope
spreeuw: I tried with xcompmgr on and off
spreeuw: didnt make a diff
ejs1920: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showpost.php?p=28747&postcount=5
ejs1920: ^ there's a link to xrenderbenchmark and my scores with and without render accel
ejs1920: you need qt4 devel files to compile it
spreeuw: which buildsystem command is it then?
ejs1920: qmake probably
spreeuw: aight
ejs1920: yeah you need qt4's qmake first in your path
spreeuw: worked
spreeuw: it's running
spreeuw: about 10x slower for the fast tests
spreeuw: than yours
spreeuw: Xrender version: 0.10
spreeuw: hmm
spreeuw: I have a northwood too
spreeuw: at 3.2 ghz
ejs1920: well it seems like the driver is using software rendering, but i have no idea why
ejs1920: you'll have to check under xaa to be sure
ejs1920: see if the scores are the same
noname: i have an issue with a radeon 9250
noname: actually a couple of issues: 3d games bounce around 30 fps to 1 fps, and dvds produce some really nasty artifacts
eboettcher: hmm
roh: hi
roh: i get loads of (EE) RADEON(0): ADVANCE_RING count != expected (12 vs 10) at radeon_textured_videofuncs.c:244
roh: with xf86-video-ati and drm from git on a R515
