arekm: agd5f: nice, will test
arekm: agd5f: works fine for me
arekm: MrCooper: -Wall addition in configure.ac no longer works?
MrCooper: why wouldn't it?
MrCooper: the point is people are ignoring warnings without -Werror
MrCooper: but some of them point out genuine bugs
ygrek: Hello everyone. What is the current state of drivers with regard to xpress 200 (rc410) (that one with (II) RADEON(0): Direct rendering broken on XPRESS 200 and 200M)? Any chances that it will be fixed sometime soon?
ygrek: Do specs opened by ATI provide info necessary to fix this?
ygrek: ok, looks like specs are irrelevant..
ygrek: hm, looks like some people have it working on bleeding edge drivers...
loswillios: ygrek: My RS400 is working quite ok
loswillios: even with EXA
loswillios: only thing missing is the non-recognized VGA-0 port (I have to force it)
ygrek: I guess I should try the latest version
loswillios: yep
mcgreg: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=NjM0MQ <-- does it mean we might get video-decoding hardware support/acceleration?
loswillios: yeah I thought the same. something like xxmc would be awesome
MrCooper: sounds rather strictly CPU related, i.e. from 'old' AMD
quicksilver: I agree.
mcgreg: seems you are right
quicksilver: it sounds like libraries for efficiently use of CPU extensions (3Dnow etc) / multicore stuff.
quicksilver: might be useful to the ffmpeg people to speed up their 264 stuff, potentially.
mcgreg: I am really surprised to see AMD releasing so much stuff to OS but I like it a lot
mcgreg: well, I mean , open their docs
dli: hope intel would open up icc
PSYCHO___: icc is bad, it gives some handicap to other cpus
stdisease: Hi, when I set the driver to radeon, then switching to my virtual terminals it's as if the display becomes much dimmer. Zapping the server then reloading it with the vesa driver resets the text brightness (gamma?) to normal
stdisease: Any solutions to this?
stdisease: Hi, when I set the driver to radeon, then switching to my virtual terminals it's as if the display becomes much dimmer. Zapping the server then reloading it with the vesa driver resets the text brightness (gamma?) to normal
Temujin_: ok, airlied, i got it built :)
aneas: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=amd_tcore_3d&num=1
aneas: news from the future
Temujin_: any special suggestions for the xorg.conf (it's an X1250/rs690)
Temujin_: lmao, 2/22/08
loswillios: wow, r300 3d docs
Temujin_: about 5 years too late :D
loswillios: heh
airlied: Temujin_: I don't hint out xorg.confs shit should just work :)
Temujin_: heh, ok
mo0n_sniper: great new guys
mo0n_sniper: tcore and 3d
rx__: sighs
OipOS: Lol.
mo0n_sniper: does not understand rx
mo0n_sniper: (i dunno what sighs means)
aneas: http://www.archon-guild.com/files/sigh.jpg
rx__: tcore and 3d isn't out yet.. but hopefully it'll come some time this week
rx__: thanks aneas ;)
aneas: welcome :)
mo0n_sniper:
mo0n_sniper: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=amd_tcore_3d&num=1
rx__: mo0n_sniper; look at the top of the article and tell me when it was published
mo0n_sniper: oh my god i'm one day into the future
mo0n_sniper: :)
mo0n_sniper: so tomorrow it's the day
vladc: Hi, can the r128 driver run without an xorg.conf file? I'm trying to get X/Fedora 8 to work on my iMac, but I'm getting the following error: http://pastebin.com/d36ce26ef
dli: when do we see 3D support in radeon? N+1 day?
airlied: dli: yes we are magic and the docs actually compile into the code :)
Temujin_: is rebooting to try new 6.8 driver
mo0n_sniper: :))
loswillios: airlied: I knew it all the time!
aneas: airlied, thats great! i always thought it was hard work ;)
dli: airlied, so, should be faster than radeonhd. I remember radeonhd developer unhappy with radeon
airlied: 3D support isn't a radeonhd/radeon thing..
airlied: 3D support is in the Mesa driver..
airlied: both 2D drivers will use the same 3D code and same kernel module
rx__:
airlied: rx__: yes :)
rx__: haha
PSYCHO___: airlied: hell, this way my boss thinks I work. When I finish analyse, he expects code day after :]
Temujin_: airlied: now i remember why i didn't like this driver, it keeps locking up my system for like 1-3 seconds at a time and making a god-awful buzz in the speaker
airlied: Temujin_: that is very wierd.. are you using EXA?
Temujin_: and i can "hear" when I move windows around, just like the radeonhd driver
Temujin_: XAA is default, right?
airlied: yes..
airlied: just the locking up for seconds seems wierd...
Temujin_: it only happens when I'm playing music
Temujin_: I use foobar2000 through WINE
PSYCHO___: irq collision?
PSYCHO___: (might be if there is problem with acpi)
Temujin_: I had a similar problem with radeonhd where I could hear mouse movements, and I had to use Option "AccelMethod" "ShadowFB" to fix it
airlied: Temujin_: so using the accelerator on your card causes problems..
Temujin_: yes, i'm using OSS4 instead of ALSA if that makes a difference
rx__: move the speakers?
Temujin_: rx__: happens through speakers and headphones
Temujin_: same thing happened with ubuntu the last time i tried this driver
Temujin_: this time i'm on Arch
PSYCHO___: you have one nice crazy combination OSS4, foobar in wine... :D
Temujin_: yeah, i know
osiris_: Temujin_: I have similiar problem on my RS690. Try fglrx if it's very irritating
Temujin_: i can't find anything equivalent to foobar2000's "Noise Sharpening" plugin on Linux
Temujin_: osiris_: fglrx is horribly buggy
PSYCHO___: Temujin_: noise sharpening means that it cuts high and low part
mark_n: looks like phoronix noticed that we noticed their article from the future - it's gone now :)
Temujin_: i have to go back to 8.40.4 to get something that's even usab;e
PSYCHO___: i don't know how to explain it in english, but i can tell you it in czech ;D
osiris_: Temujin_: i know, but if you can't stand that noise, fglrx is the only way.
Temujin_: i guess i'll just stick with radeonhd
Temujin_: radeonhd works as long as the 2D acceleration is off
damentz: airlied: wait, who codes the shader stuff?
damentz: the mesa guys or you guys?
rx__: airlied does both :P
airlied: damentz: we are all one guys,
Temujin_: i just triied Audacious, it does the same thing
damentz: airlied: so the intel driver uses the mesa libraries?
airlied: damentz: yes.. all open source 3D uses Mesa as its core..
damentz: ok
damentz: so the linux intel drivers and the windows intel drivers are very different?
airlied: yes..
damentz: ok
damentz: last question
airlied: they don't share any code and I don't think the Linux ppl can even see the Windows source code
damentz: to get more performance with my radeon 7500, i would have to optimize mesa right?
Temujin_: airlied: is there anything you want from me in terms of debugging or can i switch back to radeonhd now :D
airlied: damentz: no you'd have to buy a real card :)
airlied: Temujin_: feel free to switch back I can't think of a nice way to fix buzzing yet..
airlied: Temujin_: we'd have to mess with the memory clocks or something.
Temujin_: ok, i'll be in #radeonhd from time to time, let me know if you think of anything
Temujin_: thanks for all your help anyway
airlied: damentz: I don't think there is much that can be done to make 7500 go faster..
airlied: memory management may help in some cases..
agd5f: Just a note to everyone, that article wasn't actually published yet. We are still in final reviews of the code and documents, so I'm not sure what will be ready, by the end of the week
mo0n_sniper:
mo0n_sniper: i've heard that because memory management 3d doesn't work
airlied: mo0n_sniper: some rs480s startup okay, some don't.. we haven't narrowed down why.
mo0n_sniper: mine is a bad one
damentz: airlied: i found out that the card slows down when lots of polygons are on screen
mo0n_sniper: will tcore help?
damentz: on warsow for isntance, i have to reduce geometry detail to improve performance
damentz: which is realy strange
damentz: usually that doesn't do anything
osiris_: damentz: more polygons = more operations gpu have to execute to render the scene
damentz: osiris_: i know, but it just seems weird that it exponentially gets slower than, for instance, even the intel integrated chips at school
