DoYouKnow: a while back I heard the timeframe for when ATI Radeon xpress support for direct rendering will be integrated fully into radeon will fall sometime around this summer. Does this still hold water?
bridgman: DoYouKnow: the 3d info we are releasing for 5xx/6xx will also help with the 3xx
bridgman: core in the Xpress, in fact a lot of the code will be the same, so that
bridgman: sounds about right. The biggest question will be how long it takes to get full
bridgman: support for the Xpress and 690 since they don't have vertex shader hardware and
bridgman: extra driver code is needed instead. Airlied did a first pass on that code
bridgman: but I think it's mostly going to take time and effort more than HW info.
bridgman: If airlied or agd5f show up they will have better ideas of the work involved
DoYouKnow: what language is this code written in?
bridgman: I think it's all regular 'C'. It's in the mesa/mesa tree on freedesktop.org
bridgman: Do you want a link to the driver bits ?
bridgman: Please hold ;)
bridgman: Go to : http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=mesa/mesa.git;a=tree
bridgman: Then click on src, mesa, drivers, dri and r300 in that order
peterz: airlied: it stopped working after a reboot :-/, both screens now show the right-most screen; regardless of the output order in xrandr
airlied: peterz: uggh.. okay clearly I need more work on it :)
peterz: airlied: just curious it worked for a while
peterz: airlied: albeit it needed that xset dpms force off thing
airlied: peterz: thats wierd.. my setup worked once agd5f fixed the i2c..
peterz: anything I can do to help out?
airlied: peterz: but I didn't play that much with it..
airlied: peterz: short of bisecting it if you know of a good point where it worked..
peterz: airlied: just got the machine, so I haven't ever had it working :-/
peterz: airlied: but if you can take a stab at when it should have worked.. I can try
airlied: peterz: 1c647279f021d01e110980727b7c7dd7efae1642 maybe..
peterz: & builds
peterz: airlied: nope, same issue - but VT switching works agin
airlied: peterz: hmm.. 2a134af01bc85de758ad83a85b23d1bba4a1a0f5
airlied: I probably need to play more with my r600.. which won't be for a couple of days as its in the office..
peterz: airlied: sure, appreciated - I'll try this one
peterz: airlied: :-(
marc1: hi all
marc1: can anyone help me??
airlied: Boomy88: easier to just ask your q and hang around to see if anyone answer.
Boomy88: ok...i've an acer 1962...i can't enable video driver...can you help me??
airlied: Boomy88: what graphics card is it? and what distro are you using?
Boomy88: ati radeo x600
airlied: hmm so what breaks with it? machine hangs or something?
Boomy88: i try to enable by handler restricted drivers...but i receive this message The software source for the package
Boomy88: is not enabled.
Boomy88: i read that tare is a software callled envy that can install them autmatically
airlied: Boomy88: oh we can't help with binary drivers in here.. #ati maybe
Boomy88: i can't find theeemm...
berniyh: airlied: remember, that i told you about some corrupt display problems?
berniyh: i found a way (sort of) to reproduce it and made a picture of it
berniyh: sorry for the bad quality, i don't have anything else than a mobile phone
berniyh: the problem happens about every fifth time when i do "radeontool light off && radeontool light on"
agd5f: berniyh: does it only happen when using radeontool to turn on/off the light?
agd5f: I've gone ahead and pushed (hopefully) semi-decent support for bios/driver interaction via the scratch regs
agd5f: if anyone was having problems with things like lid switches hotkeys, things should work better now.
berniyh: well, i don't exactly know how it originally happened, but i think i switched from cloned mode to --above using xrandr
agd5f: airlied: that about does it for me. anything else you want to do before release?
berniyh: it also happened a few times when i used "xset dpms force off"
berniyh: (and of course turned it on again)
berniyh: i'll try with a newer git snapshot then, i guess ;)
agd5f: berniyh: it's probably a timing issue with the LVDS enable/disable sequence
berniyh: could be, never had it on the vga
airlied: agd5f: r600 testing might be an idea..
airlied: agd5f: do you have r600?
agd5f: yeah. rv630
agd5f: berniyh: something like the following might help: http://www.botchco.com/alex/xorg/damentz.diff
agd5f: I don't think that will apply cleanly ATM though
berniyh: i'll have a look
berniyh: no, applied cleanly
rx__: there's going to be a release?
agd5f: airlied: wow, r600 looks terrrible here
agd5f: display is horribly corrupted
agd5f: looks like it's scanning out of the wrong part of vram
agd5f: 512 MB card
agd5f: yeah, it's definitely scanning the wrong part
airlied: agd5f: hmm I didn't think it was that bad on Friday..
airlied: I could at least see desktops..
agd5f: airlied: I've never had this card working AFAIR
agd5f: I suspect the display controller base address is set to the wrong MC address
