bridgman: I'm trying to get the old specs re-released (with more info) but if there are
bridgman: specific questions we can probably answer them sooner - gpudriverdevsupport at amd.com
bridgman: I stress this is for developer questions not user questions ;)
bridgman: You're looking for m6, right ? Oddly enough, we are getting all kinds
bridgman: of questions about m6 and the 7000 desktop chip
bridgman: ??? cbrill's log server seems to be rolling over on west coast US time now
bridgman: didn't it roll over at something like midnight in Germany before ?
rx__: :)
chowmeined: hmmm
chowmeined: that was interesting
MGrunde: Hi, my screen just started freaking out. Is anyone awake?
MGrunde: Right, well if anybody happens to read this, my screen now looks like this: http://milencomputers.com/snapshot2.png
MGrunde: If you have any idea what caused this, and hopefully a remedy, I'd greatly appreciate if if you emailed me at M.Grunde@gmail.com
airlied: MGrunde: what card? log file etc? did it go away if you vt switched?
MGrunde: 9800 pro
airlied: MGrunde: very unusual..
MGrunde: I'll try to switch now.
MGrunde_: Well, trying to switch made me crash, but after rebooting everything seems to be okay.
MGrunde_: Although I did notice that the BIOS splash screen had many black vertical lines that shouldn't be there.
airlied: MGrunde_: hmm I wonder are you maybe having VRAM issues..
MGrunde_: That probably wouldn't be good.
MGrunde_: I seem to be getting those same black lines when I try to play video files.
MGrunde_: The videos play fine, but there's like "| | | |" all across the screen
MGrunde_: Blast, it just happened again.
MGrunde_: Do you think it could be a power issue? My power supply has been sounding funny, I just assumed there was dust in the fan.
airlied: MGrunde_: it might be, but it does sound like a bad VRAM chip for some reason..
MGrunde_: There's no easy way of fixing that, is there?
rx__: how's your soldering experience? ;)
MGrunde_: Light to moderate :)
MGrunde_: Would it be as simple as removing a chip?
airlied: MGrunde_: it might be worth trying the "other" OS if you have it installed..
MGrunde_: I don't, but I could boot to a Knoppix CD, although it'd still be using the radeon driver, wouldn't it.
rx__: wonders if vesa would change things..
rx__: about that soldering question.. i don't think the VRAM chips are actually purchaseable.. :)
airlied: MGrunde_: might be worth trying with knoppix.. vesa may or may not see it..
MGrunde_: Heh. I didn't think so either. I don't suppose the card would like it if I just removed some VRAM. Would it even still function?
rx__: don't bother :)
MGrunde_: Well, assuming I have to purchase a new card, what should I get?
MGrunde_: AGP, >$50 USD
rx__: hrm.. i've read people having a hard time w/cards that have the pcie-agp bridge chip
rx__: but i've also read that's more or less been fixed in fglrx
MGrunde_: I'd rather use radeon. fglrx has been nothing but trouble for me.
MGrunde_: radeon has always been stable for me, always worked perfectly.
rx__: personally the highest end agp i would go for is the x1950 but i don't know its level of support in radeon
MGrunde_: Wow. I don't need anything that fancy. I'll do that when I build a new system with PCIe.
rx__: oh.. in that case..
rx__: something in r400 for AGP.. like x700-x800..
rx__: wonders what airlied recommends
rx__: hate them all equally?
airlied: x850 is probably best bang for buck if you can find one..
airlied: I have an x1900xtx at work ..
airlied: radeon does full 2D accel.. no 3D yet..
MGrunde_: Haha. Why are video cards so expensive? The cheapest on Newegg is like $40.00 and thats for a 9550.
rx__: is x1900xtx/agp supported?
rx__: or any of the r500/agp i guess
MGrunde_: I just need a card that will play basic videos and can handle 1280x1024
rx__: oh.. i guess that was an answer to my Q :)
MGrunde_: Well, I somehow finished writing my paper through this horribly messed up screen, so I should probably sleep.
MGrunde_: 02:00 here.
MGrunde_: Thanks a lot for all of your help.
peterz: airlied: still around?
AndrewR: glisse, no, with your hack (texture indirection) mplayer display just grey window.
dli__: AndrewR, is that something glisse did towards 3D support?
AndrewR: dli, sometimes i play with another machine with rv410 (x70 pcie). In this time i encounter bug with mplayer vo gl:yuv=4. "Too many levels of texture indirections". And glisse did small temporary modification, but unfortunately it doesn't help
AndrewR: *x700
dli__: AndrewR, thanks for the info
glisse: AndrewR: ok so the the fix is to make the fragprog use differen temp reg
glisse: ie first 3 tex instruction should use tmp[7], tmp[10], tmp[11]
glisse: i think i might have an idea to fix that in fragprog easily\
rexwin: 'error while loading shared libraries: libdbus-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No
OipOS: Nice one. Either your so file is not located in the directories of /etc/ld.so.conf anymore, you deleted it, or you simply don't have it and need to compile dbus.
OipOS: /install it. Depending on which distro you have.
sddssdh: hey, vote in this sait please http://prize.zzl.org/vote.php?id=3300
lux0815: hi, how I can enable tv-out on my radeon 9250? I don't find any manual how to get it work?
maks_: xrandr
lux0815: but statically in the xorg.conf
OipOS: brb
OipOS: Whoops, wrong window.
airlied: peterz: pong if you there.
peterz: airlied: yeah, although i'm a tad suprised myself
peterz: airlied: I have this HD2600 - and I know support for it is flaky
peterz: airlied: but I was playing with both radeon and radeonhd
peterz: airlied: but neither manages to do the dual head thing
peterz: airlied: all they do is the mirror trick
airlied: peterz: did you play with xrandr?
peterz: airlied: radeon just goes blank on both screens, radeonhd shows either the left or right screen twice (depending on xrandr argument order)
airlied: peterz: can you send me a log?
peterz: airlied: yeah, stuff like: xrandr --output "DVI-1" --left-of "DVI-0"
airlied: peterz: I'll plug in my hd2400 later to see if it is borked..
peterz: airlied: ok, let me power on the box..
loswilios: oh, it seems current git recognizes VGA port of my rs400 somehow
loswilios: what a nice surprise
peterz: airlied: sent, let me know if you need anything else
peterz: airlied: this was with git from two days ago
peterz: & zzz
peterz: nite folks
airlied: peterz: okay its busted here in any case.. I'll give it some time today..
airlied: agd5f: so we aren't getting DDC correct on r600.. I'll see if I can bisect it down.
agd5f: airlied: it's probably my i2c rework, I never got a chance to test on r6xx
agd5f: I'll create a quick patch
agd5f: airlied: does this patch work? http://www.botchco.com/alex/xorg/fix_r6xxddc.diff
airlied: agd5f: not immediately.. I'll have to go back and see if I ever got DDC outta the VGa on this.
airlied: the DVI ddc works.
agd5f: we should look up the i2c info like we do on the other chips, but I'm not sure exactly which table to use on r6xx
agd5f: airlied: another interesting note, there are 4 sets of i2c registers and masks specified in the i2c table. the first 3 are obvious, but I'm not sure what the last
airlied: agd5f: it could also be my cable :-)
agd5f: brb
airlied: agd5f: so the cable had something to do with it..
airlied: agd5f: your patcjh gets both monitors on at least.
agd5f: cool. I'll go ahead and push it
airlied: agd5f: is the 7e30 a typo?
agd5f: I dunno. you added that :)
airlied: agd5f: oh .. I'll have to figure out where it came from then :)
rx__: huh?
airlied: agd5f: did you say rv670 pciid should be okay?
agd5f: airlied: should be
agd5f: don't have one to test though
airlied: agd5f: well there in now.. see if someone complains :)
agd5f: :)
